98SERwTricks 01-24-2005, 06:09 PM it's easy, but a pain in the ass :D
I just did mine not too long ago, and it was a bitch getting the parking brake cable off and back on, but I guess you have to do that so you can get teh rotors off...

over all it is extremelly easy job, also fluch you brake system with some good ford dot 3 fluid it will make a day and night difference
BORNGEARHEAD 01-25-2005, 01:02 AM Well, the most important thing to know is that the rear caliper pistons DO NOT squeeze in. You have to turn them in. If you squeeze them, you will destroy them. Very important.
mpg9999 01-25-2005, 01:05 AM Just use some needle nose pliers to turn them in.
The only time consuming part is turning in the piston for the parking brake, I used a pair of pliers and made pretty quick work of it.
Everything else is easy as pie. I took the parking brake cable off in order to get the rear caliper off. Make sure you torque everything down right ;)
Toolapcfan 01-25-2005, 10:14 AM I'm pretty sure when I did mine, that when I removed the bolt that holds that parking brake bracket on, the cable was very easy to remove from the caliper.
thebirdman 01-28-2005, 01:01 PM sears sells a small box looking tool for these types of brake pistons. its like 10 bucks but worth every penny. you can use it on all types of vehicles with this type brake set up. it fits on a 3/8th drive ratchet and fits into the slots on the piston, works awesome. good luck, Rich
skeeter149 01-28-2005, 01:22 PM hey i went kragen and rented a rear break tool i think it was called. it is made for turning the piston. it cost me about $113 and if you get it back to them within 24 hours you get all the rental fee back if not within 24 hours they make you keep it and they they the money.
pertuzian 01-28-2005, 02:16 PM Whenever I have messed with my rear brakes, getting the e-brake cable out has been easy - just pull it off the hook with pliers. But, like toolapcfan said, if there is too much tension in it for that t be easy, unbolting the bracket will make it much better.

I really hope that's a typo and it wasn't $113 to rent it!!
Buy the rear disc brake tool (the block thingie). I bought mine at NAPA for $11. They are too inexpensive to not buy one.
compression 01-31-2005, 03:22 PM Make sure the parking brake isnt on.
If the cable is still too tight, you can let some slack into it by loosening the cable adjusting nut under the center console next to the e-brake handle. After that, the cable basically falls off the rear caliper.
