Trying to decide what to get for my future $2003 Grassroots Motorsports Challenge. Curious what people have paid for their DETs. I hear all kinds of rumors like GTi-R DETs in Atlanta for $1000, etc. etc. I know I can call Soko and SR20Development and such, I would rather know how much you have paid for them, NOT where you got them as this is not a vendor war. I don't have many data point for what people actually PAID as opposed to "I called here and they said they were this much"
Thanks :D

I think I probably got one of the best deals on a DET since i ordered about 6 other motors with it (various things for the shop) and then shifted the cost of the DET to the others (I was the purchasing agent) :-)
was quoted 1600 shipped if I order the DET alone
since I ordered the other motors with it I and spread the rest of the cost between the other motors I paid in the area of 800 with shipping :-)
For the poll:
It was from Soshin (STC)
quoted 1600

$1700 + $100 Shipping
Looked beat-E-Ful
Pics on my site but the thing looked darn near new - I dropped the lower pan to find the same, very clean bottom end.....
Turbo has 0 play and I'm sure it will be a great motor if I ever install it!
BlueBird - no GTi-R here

For special cases I can get a DET for $1300 in nice shape. (Please don't everyone email me, this is for SPECIAL cases as it's dealer cost)
However IMHO the DET is not the way to go for the $2003 challenge.
My SE-R is a perfect example. I bought it for $500, put $150 into the tranny, $350 for four Nitto NT555R's, figure a used nitrous kit for $350 with a 150hp jet, ($1350 so far) find some used GC's for maybe $200, some Tokico blues for about $300, and you got $153 or so for misc stuff left over. I'm sure you can manipulate some items and $$ but that's a ball park figure.
You wouldn't have squat left after a DET swap and the cost of the car. I'm sure you wouldn't even make budget.
The scenario above would give you hp for the drag portion (Nitrous) and great handling for the rest of the event.
Nitrous may not be a bad idea, but a 1587lb 89-91 Geo Metro with an NA SR20DE may not do so badly in the 1/4 mile without nitrous. :) Although nitrous would make it rather interesting. :D
Looking at one now for $200. Wife said I could have it! :D
