: NX Exhaust System
silversx 12-13-2001, 01:14 AM Does anyone else here know that courtesyparts.com has a Borla exhaust system for the NX2000? What does it consist of? what is the diameter of the piping? does it sound good? it's $400.00 for the whole exhaust.
I'm really curious..here is the website I found it on
http://www.courtesyparts.com/nismo/b13/b13_2.html
PNWser 12-13-2001, 01:22 AM you can find it for 264 plus shipping here http://www.nismoparts.com
silversx 12-13-2001, 01:41 AM COOL!
is it good?
it is cat back, correct?
RollcageSR20 12-13-2001, 02:34 AM IMO, it's not worth the money. It is not a cat-back system; just the muffler with tip, hangers, and piping to bolt on to the stock mid-pipe. The muffler inlet/outlet diameter is 2". I have this muffler... It's an okay muffler, but definitely not worth the price. It gave me about 2hp and 2lb/ft of torque on the dyno (only gained 1hp and lost 1lb/ft of torque at the power peak). Thankfully, mine was a hand-me-down. It sounds deep, but also very quiet for an aftermarket muffler. My POP charger is louder.

silversx 12-13-2001, 12:47 PM well my stock exhaust is pretty shitty with a leak and about 180k miles on it, and i have no freaking idea what to do about any sort of cat back exhausts..

Well... You have these options.
1. Purchase the Courtesy/Topspeed 2.5" mid-pipe from Courtesy Nissan (~$190). Buy a universal 2.5" muffler (~$100) and go to a muffler shop and have them weld hangers and a flange to the muffler to attach to the mid-pipe.
2. Just purchase a universal muffler and get it attached (by a muffler shop) to the stock mid-pipe.
3. Find a muffler shop that has mandrel-bent piping, and have them make a custom 2.25" (or 2.5") mid-pipe with a good resonator and a universal muffler.
All that (depending on which muffler shop you go to) will end up being cheaper than if you were to by a cat-back system from say, GReddy or HKS (as an example, I know they don't make cat-backs for the NX).

silversx 12-13-2001, 07:01 PM i bought a muffler from an NX from Jason garrett young, monro put it on but it still leaks at the flange because the exhaust is so old and shitty so they just welded it on there, there is no way that will ever come off. i think i will just have them fabricate one for me, because they DO do mandrel bends there. what kind of resonator should i get? what brand? how about a muffler? any tips?

Well... If it were me, this is what I would do. I'd ask for 2.25" mandrel bent tubing. For a resonator, I would use a Thrush glasspack in the longest size that will fit. Believe it or not, they work. Stay away from louvered core type mufflers, resonators, etc. They actually hinder flow. For a muffler, there are some good choices out there. Dynomax Ultra-Flo and the Borla Turbo mufflers come to mind. Either one will work well. Also, I would get a resonated exhaust tip... Something not too flashy. The resonated tip will also help quiet down exhaust noise.
Keep in mind, this is what I would do, and probably will do. For reference, you could try reading Naji's write-up on his custom exhaust... His setup is similar to what I would do. I've heard his exhaust system, and it is very quiet. YMMV.

NXTremeSE-R 12-14-2001, 09:55 AM From what I understand, the curtesy mid-pipe will not fit the NX. I know, it sucks.. I had my resonator cut out, and had a pipe put in its place, then had a local shop just do a crush bent job with some 2.25 and put a eurosport muffler and a nice tip on. not to bad.

Not true... I know of two people with the Courtesy mid-pipe in their NX's. MarC is one of them, and Ben Rockwell is the other.

NXTremeSE-R 12-14-2001, 01:57 PM SWEET! now i can get one. see, i thought it would work to, but i think i asked them when i orederd my brakes and they said it wouldnt fit. that is so cool. its all mandrial (sp?) bent right? what diameter is it again?
paNX2K&SE-R 12-14-2001, 02:42 PM I have the Nissan Motorsports Borla rear section on my NX and really like it. The tone is nice and its not too loud. I'd go with it and the Courtesy midpipe. Remember, they are both stainless steel and will last a *long* time. The only thing better would be to find a shop that would mandrel bend satinless pipe and get a decent aftermarket muffler (like borla or magnaflow), or make the exhaust Kojima style by ordering mandrel bent pipes and a muffler and have a shop assemble it for you.

focus 12-14-2001, 03:19 PM That seems like the best route to go I think I will do the same. What do you think it will costs to have a couple hangers and flanges welded on at a shop. Ballpark figure?

Yup... All mandrel bent. It's said to be 2.5"... But I've also heard 60.5mm outer diameter (~2.4")... So it would be safe to assume that the inner pipe diameter is around 60mm.
Funny thing... I had been reading the SE-R list archives regarding NX exhaust systems. Quite a bit of conflicting info on what does/doesn't fit. I recall someone saying that the stock mid-pipes for both the SE-R and NX having the same part number. I also heard the Stromung mid-pipe would fit, but not with the NX muffler... Also heard the Stromung pipe hits the rear parallel links, etc, etc.

Here's a stupid question... Has anyone tried this setup? Was just thinking about this since the Courtesy mid-pipe is 2.5" and the Nissan Motorsports/Borla rear section necks down to 2"... Wondering if there would be any issues with exhaust flow, or would it be more than adequate for an N/A application. I'm actually thinking of going with this route since I already have the Nissan Motorsports/Borla muffler.
