Has anyone put any 205 50 / 15's on a classic. I have 195/50's now and it looks tight to add any more tire. I've already bent up the inside of the fenders to properly fit the 195's. I am thinking about some Falken Azenias for autoxing, but want to make sure they will fit before I purchase them. Do I need to mess with the offset? Will they rub anywhere?

You might be able to fit a 205 -- actual tire sizes vary by brand. What's a 205 with one brand may be skinnier than a 205 with another brand. Heck, you might find a 195 that's wider than a 205.

See Tire Rack (http://www.tirerack.com) for tire specs.

I was able to fit 205/55/14s Hoosiers on my old car, but not without 5mm spacers on wheels with an offset of 38. It was tight, but they fit.

Hit this link to see my '93 with 195/50/15 Bridgestone RE-71s. About 2mm clearance on the struts out back. Rims have 40mm backspacing, by the way: http://www.sr20de.org/images/gallery.php?op=view&cat=Sentra%20SE-R%20%28Classics%29&img=gpser1.jpg

I had 205/50/15s on before, but with 38mm backspacing. Fit like a glove.

I have 195/50/15 Bridgestone Potenza S03s on 200 SX SER wheels on my 91 Classic w no probs. I thought about 205s, but decided 195s were a sure bet to fit, and is plenty of tire for the car, and they warm up a bit quicker then I thought 205s would.

Plus 195s are a LOT less than 205s on tirerack.com.

Mr. Vick, do you get ANY rubbing at all? Like when you turn all the way left or right? Please explain if you do rub at what point does it happen?

Thanks!

What's up Big Money? I'm runnin Enkei rpo 2's with the 38 offset. They don't rub at all. Haven't rolled the lips in the fenders or any thing. Hope this helps.;)

Whats up dawg? I don't know squat about what my stock offsets are. Would 38mm offset stick the rim & tire out from the fender. You know... so when you look down the side of the car they stick out. I hate that look. Sorry for all the questions. This will be my last on this topic.

Thanks again:D :D

No they won't stick out. Sit about flush with the outside of the car.

205 seems a bit wide for a classic to me. Then again 17's seem to big too, even for my b14. I beleive they would fit and all, but you might be compromising accel or braking for overall grip. It is of courese highly dependent on your individual/overall goal for the car.

Finally found the board, huh Mikey?
You really ned to check the offset on your wheels. Also check the section width of your current tires (Potenzas, right?) on tirerack.com or onlinetires.com. Then go check the section width of the Azenis in 205/50/15 (I can't remember what it was). Take the difference in section widths and divide by two and you can take a very unscientific guess as to the fit on the inside and outside edges. Plan on rolling the rear wheel wells (I can help you) but the inside fit next to the strut is critical, especially under side loads.

Thank-you for the info Stevie.
Beyond the information thay you supplied, tirerack also noted that the size of the measuring rim affects section width. I'll do the math here for anyone else considering such an upgrade.
The 195/50/15 Potenza RE730's have a section width of 8" on a 6" measuring rim. Based on info supplied on tirerack.com every .5" increase in actual rim width adds about .2" in section width. My Borbet type H rims are 7" wide. So I would expect the corrected section width to be about 8.4"
The 205/50/15 Azenias have a section with of 8.3" on a 6.5" measuring rim. So I would expect the width to be about 8.5". Thus the axenias should only be .1" wider. My wheels have a 35mm offset so I have been more concerned about them rubbing the fender than the strut. I've already bent the fender lip up because the 195's rubbed. I suspect moving .1"/2 = .05" farther out won't be a problem.
The Azenia should be worth about a half second over my badly worn potenza's in autocross next season - moving me a step close to de-throning the 4 time Indy Region STS champ...

Your gonna run them this year?
You suck.
I may have to make up a regional rule outlawing them (at least until I get a set!) :D

And, it's 3 time defending champ, not 4 (you schmuck) ;)

I often put my B14 rims with 205/50/15 Bridgestones re730's on my Classic. No problems.
