Ok here is the problem I, well my friend, is having. He has a 1991 Classic, and his sr20de threw a rod. Ok, this is what i have avalible to me. I have a ga16, right now, free of charge. This is what we want to do. Can we swap the ga16 into the car, with minimal trouble, while we take the sr20 and rebuild it? What I am mainly asking is, if we swap this, what has to be changed over, and will the transmission line up?

Yes you can swap it, not with minimal trouble, no the trasmissions aren't cross compatible. Your best option is to have him buy a JDM SR20DE for around $500. If you can get that GA for free, take it and resell it and that would help him to offset the cost of the SR20DE. It'll cost you more than $500 to rebuild his engine, so you might as well save yourselves the trouble and spend that money on a JDM engine that has around 30K on it. It'd be a good idea while you have the new engine out, to remove the throttle body and intake manifold and clean them really good, replace the front and rear main seals, replace the timing cover gasket, and replace the water pump. Also check to see if his front and rear motor mounts are shot. I'm guessing in a '91 that they are. Probably the cheapest and best way to replace those is to get the Prothane brand poly urethane inserts for them. For about $700 total, he should be in good shape with the new engine.

I think its a waste of time. If you all are going to do a swap, then go all out. Just don't do a swap and then swap back just to get by. Or take the car some where and leave it a few days and have it fixed.

Just buy a new used SR20DE.
2nd, buy a used JDM SR20DE. To use the GA, you will need a GA ecu, GA wiring harness, GA transmision + Axles, GA motor mounts and motor mount brackets, GA radiator etc.. etc..

Alright, well it certianly looks like we are going to sell the GA16, and buy a sr20de Jdm. Well infact we already bought one from anarchy motors, but it hasn't arrived. I have been over 3 weeks... I am getting a little annoyed, but I am holding out until the 4th week. The sooner he gets his car up and running the better, that means I can get back to my normal driving.
