but my car idles like shit, I hate the learning curve of the ecu :( it almost dies on me, but it is ok, because I CAN REV TO 7500 RPMS WOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

how the hell did you do it?

I would assume a G20 ECU. How long is it supposed to take until it will idle right?

If you are referring to the G20 ECU, it should not be doing that. Mine started right up and idled the same as before.

What may have happened though is your base idle is reset. You need to raise it.

Mine idles perfectly, no problems!

aot :) ya, I will raise it again, I don't mind it really, just if I had a turbo.

Make sure the harness is plugged in all the way. If its off by a hair it will cause a bad idle. I had this problem with my JWT ecu.

You know thats a very good point...never thought of that myself.

oh ya, it is in there, it is starting to smooth out, I think I started it up and it was like "wholly shit, bolt on car??" I will wait a few more days.

Installed a g20 ecu myself last night. Started up and idled smooth, except for a few idle belches (these started after I put the cai as well). That, and it was a little slow at first, cause of the ecu learninig thing. It should be fine today
The upgrade raisese the ceiling which I needed. That stock rev-limiter fucks with my internal harmony when it cuts the party off. Next to test the governor...
I haven't hit the new limiter yet, cause I shifted as I watched the needle sail past 7500, and even deeper into red. It sounds like it revs freely, but buttercup isnt truly comfortable over 7300 anyway. The sound changed, and power definitely fell off at htis point.
What are the best points to shift in each gear? This new upgrade changes everything. I mean even guys with high ports dont shift at 7500 either right?
Good upgrade thanks Charles. Now for the hotshot as soon as I get some gaskets.

IN first take it to redline, second through fourth, shift at about 6500-6600, that is the end of the power band on our cars.

No, thats ridiculous. Shift at redline. Especially when you have all the breather bolt-on mods.

If you are trying to go as fast as you can then you should shift at 7500. If you have the JWT ECU then about 7800. JWT raises the rev-limit for a reason....

NO NO NO NO NO, take your car to a dyno and watch the power band fall off at 6500-6600, its a waste of time going to redine if your power band is falling, trust me!

Here is the proof, all the bolt ons broken down, look the power band falls after 6500!!!
The facts!

I'm not talking about the dyno. I'm referring to drag racing. You want the fastest time, take each gear to redline.

I tried altering my shift points on time at Englishtown when we had about 14 runs in one day (SE-R meet, July 30th 1999)

I had a 91 SE-R back then and was new at drag racing...so with just a HS header and an open airbox in the 95 degree heat I had a best time of 16.0X @ 87 shifting at 7500 in 1st, 7500 in 2nd and finishing around 7400 in 3rd gear.

Tried changing my shift points, shifted aaroundt 6500 in 1st and about 6500 in 2nd, saw my times drop to 16.5-16.7 @ 85 range.

THats f@#ked up my friend dropped alomst a second changing from shifting at redline to shifting at power peak, i guess what ever works, huh

A second? Was his clutch slipping at high RPMS? That could explain it....the higher you shift the higher your revs will be in the next gear...which is the purpose of shifting pass power peak...
