Started working on my second motor and took apart some old HLAs today from a 4WD 78E with 53J Head. I just had them tossed in a container of oil. Now I'm looking at making a set of adjustable solid lifters instead of purchasing another set of Tomei Solid Lifters.
There are 4 each of two different designs.
#1: Three pieces, outer case, lower control valve and spacer assy, top pivot and oil control oriffice.
#2: Two pieces, outer case, top pivot and control valve all in one piece.
Both have the main spring as well.
They are both collapsed to the same height, however they are 0.010" different when free standing (Two piece shorter than three piece).
Question 1: Which one came from the intake valve side of the motor.
Question 2: What is the height of the Tomei Solid Lifter (the set I have already is in my race car).
Thanks
