hello, im new here and i just recently brought my 91 se-r with around 150k on it for 2000.. the car ran pretty good but i got se-r frenzy and drove around racing all the rice boy civics and showed them sr20 power hehe now my clutch is slipping pretty bad, got that ticking timing chain problem and i think i need a valvejob because when my oil cap is off and the engine is running there is a rumbling sound with air pushing out.. is that a sign of a valve job? also when the engine is running and i check the oil it is like way off the mark but at rest it is really low? can that be part of the valvejob problem or is there a clog?
well since with all the problems and the valve job can be fairly expensive is it better just to do a primera swap? i was thinking of doing the swap and working on the engine that i have now and maybe down the line buy a 240 and do a sr20de swap
sorry for so many question.. just ever since i got the se-r im in love with the sr20de hehe thanx for taking your time and voicing your opinon.. its really appreciated

Since you are in Cali you might want to contact K. Watanabe.
You can find a Primera as low as $260!!! YES ITS TRUE!!!
I got my Primera down in Miami, FL. Its going in soon. My old engine was a victim of a spun bearing.

Only check your oil with the engine off and give it a minute to drain back down into the oil pan. Fill to full mark. Never go more than 1/2 quart low (halfway between full and fill marks). Your engine is probably fine - do a compression check and maybe a leak down test. Hire it done if you're not sure how to do it. I doubt you need a new motor. If you haven't read all the info at www.se-r.net and http://www.se-r.net/site_index.html now would be a good time to do it.

More info for you - I pulled my oil cap while the motor was running (never tried it before) and I have the same noise and pressure (it's normal). If concerned - just check your PCV is ok. The engine is doing what it should when oil in the pan and on the stick is lower with the motor running - spreading oil through out the motor and in the top end.

to AC7880: thanx for all the info... its kinda odd *** because when i have my oil filled to the full mark and i drove the car.. the oil would spit everywhere..mostly in front of the engine bay like around the grill area.. some in the valve cover also..right now im running on really low dirty oil (scared of a blown motor happen before in a toyota camary).. also i tired taking off the oil cap of my cousin 89 accord to see if it would do the same but it wasnt.. is it just cause of my compression ratio? i think i might try to do a motor flush because i read somewhere on se-r.net about a clog with similar syntoms
can anyone tell me how to get contact with K Watanabe maybe a phone number? or the webpage? i tried looking on se-r.net at the listing but couldnt find it
on more question.. how hard is it to install a clutch? hehe my equipment is fairly limited so if any of you guys know.. what would i need to do so i really appreciated.. because one of my friend have an oem clutch of his se-r with around 30k on it and he is giving it to me for free

Running low on oil is how most of the SR20s are dieing - it will blow with low oil, and dirty oil is killing the motor slowly. I'd top it up immediately with ANY 5-30 or 10-30 motor oil. Then as soon as possible change it and the filter.
Where is the oil coming from? You do have the oil cap on?? - if not it will spit oil. Your Positive Crankcase Valve (or vent) (PCV) may be clogged. It is the small valve plugged into your valve cover, connected to a rubber hose. It is what vents your top end to prevent blowing oil.
Check PCV valve - pull it out and shake it. It ought to rattle freely, with no sticking. Cheap to replace - or carb cleaner/wd40 may clear it.
I just can't see buying a new motor without checking out the motor you have now. Your motor may be fine. I know the Primera is relatively inexpensive, but why do all that labor if there's no need? Personally, I'd troubleshoot my current motor first, find out the oil leak, get fresh oil in it, check the PCV valve, do a compression check. Should have between $10 and $50 bucks in it to do that. I have 152,000 on my motor, runs strong. It could go next week, or years from now. List members on here have even up to 300,000 miles on their motors.
Good luck - but top up the oil and check the PCV. Try a compression check. If all works out ok you won't need the primera, and can invest in a top of the line tune up with plugs, wires, distrib cap, rotor, timing, filters, swap ALL fluids, timing chain tensioner etc and be in great shape. Course if I'm wrong the primera option is still there, and all the good parts bolt straight across.
