i was driving home tonight and the car suddenly died.. like hitting a rev limiter but i was at like 3 grand just cruising... then it took off again back to normal.. its done it a few times before but i think its my fuel pump.. and i think the fuel is cutting out.. any help would be appreciated.. my other guess might be fuel filter.. i think its still stock and car has 82k on it..

I have had an NX2000 fuel pump fail on me before.... Usually the car stutters as you are mentioning, but It will also likely be really hard to start (cranks several times) about 3-5 times before it finally fails. My suggestion is to order a new one (that way you are not scrambling and can get a good price) now. Then swap it out on a weekend... It is a 45-60 min job at most..

If your it is your stock pump and you have over 120,000 miles, the pump is a real possibility.. You can also tell if it is the pump, by attaching a fuel pressure gauge to you fuel line, but for the cost of replacement, it is likely not worth it..

when changing the fuel pump, i highly recommend getting a new o-ring that goes on the tank cover. When I did mine, the old o-ring expanded and didn't want to fit in it's groove anymore; took my dad and I over a half hour to get the stupid cover back on with the o-ring in place.

Yes.. I agree with this statement.. The o-ring is only good for one use..

Make sure your gas cap is venting.

Just because you can hear the pump prime does not mean it is acually pumping. The pump sometimes will lock up and still make a sound, but not actually move any gas.

I am not 100% , but I believe it is right near your fire wall right in front of the driver. But it is easy to find. Just track the fuel line back from your fuel rail. Just be careful to use the fuel line and not the fuel return line....

Also some later SR20's don't have a fuel filter that is a maintenance item...

it is on the firewall on the drivers side. you need to change that if it is original to start. i would look into getting a pressure gague afterward if you still have problems. it may be the fuel pump relay cutting out intermittently. also could be an ignition issue. don't' just waste money on parts. the money you spend on tools, even cheap ones, will save you money in the end
