So yesterday i ran it hard and when i parked idle was funny, so i started messing with the afc and i noticed oil pressure drop to like 13 - 14 psi....wtf!? At this point the engine had been running for a while. I took the spark plugs out and some of the pistons had little spots on them....like detonation. Theres carbon and in the carbon theres little dots of clear. So car is sitting there and my fans decide to give out on me. After a while the fucker overheats! :( So i shut her off, fix the fans, go around the block to recycle the water back in the block after its cool. Now she has 20 - 21 psi of oil pressure and it goes all the way up to 60 and maybe a bit more while cruising. How can i tell if the motor is good or not? Draining the oil is the only way? This morning i cranked her up and started up fine. man......shit....

Sell it.

you will be fine, you shut it off as soon as it overheated which is good and a little detonoation never killed an engine, a lot of it well better start digging a hole. Check your timing and plugs and all that. drive it around and monitor it.

How much boost you runing?

im running 15 psi......wastegate spring. The plugs seem to be burning fine....

but what would explain the drop of oil pressure for a little while? Would it have anything to do with the car running idling for a while? Would it somehow be connected to overheating? Stupid question i know but...i just dont know wtf.

at cold idle, oil pressure is ussualy pretty high, I'd say somewhere around 50-60psi if I recall correctly.

At warm idle, oil pressure is ussualy around 15psi.

Hot oil = thinner oil = lower oil pressure, and since you're saying it started overheating, I'll guess that oil was pretty damn hot! lol! 14 psi at idle is still okay, though - I think the minimum spec in the FSM is 11 psi. You're fine...

Are you running a DET? If not, 15 psi of boost is a bit high for a USDM DE on pump gas...

Ahh, gotcha - I though you were running the stock cast stuff...

me and my mechanic did a compression test on it today and it came out to 160 all across. Keep in mind these are 8.5.1 pistons. The oil pressure is reading fine. (thank god) i just have to pull the pan and see.

man, i've seen like 3-4 threads from you about various problems wiht your car. Has it ever run right? not trying to talk shit, i'm just curious. U ever work out your other problems yet

yeah i work out my own problems but this is my first sr and im not too familiar with the motor. I know the qr inside out but not this one so sometimes i freak out about things which are normal with the sr. But for the most part, they're very similar. I always like to get opinions from people ( sr20forum) who might have gone through the problems im going through now. This car has some problems and i need to get them fixed but it seems as if more and more keep coming up, it sux.
