I'm looking to do something like the shigspeed's but by myself.. I've seen it plenty of times before on other cars and was wondering if anyone here has done it... I recently picked up some ground controls and want to get rid of the spring perches (to make room for slicks and skinnies)... I'm looking to try different strut catridges for different valving/rebound characteristics and don't want to spend the cash for the advance design units or shigspeeds.. has anyone done it successfully?? if so please chime in... :biggthump

Its a PITA but it can be done...

You might have to modify the body a bit to facilitate internal c-clips and such so when time comes to rip them appart again for tuning it would be easier.

Use motor cycle fork oil.

Also I'd put in 3 seals instead of just 2 or 1 to seal the crap out, once your oil is cuntaminated, thats it.

I used to mountain bike a lot and how your bike handles depends a lot on your shocks.

I'd do it if I have the time, its a good thing to do because you can adjust spring rates, oil level, oil weight and such.

Luck

Swapping inserts is not a big deal, but actually opening up a strut or insert is not something you would want to do yourself. Doing an 8611 (shigspeed) is almost impossible without some specialized tools. When you are done, if you don't have a shock dyno, you are in the dark about whether they work correctly or not.

hmmm..... very true... I'm just curious because I'm trying for something tried and true that'll eliminate the spring perch and just like a lot of the other cats on tne board I'm just trying to do it "frugal gourmet" style so I can apply more $$$ to other parts... thanks for the heads up though!!! =)
