Hey guys---I guess I am keeping my classic---I got a couple silly offers from online clowns/flakes/lowballers whatever you call them--and the car seems to feel a lot faster lately (cold weather maybe?) Anyways--I need to replace my drivers side door hinges. Stine told me in a post on here to loosen up the front fender. I can only find a few of the bolts, (under the hood), where abouts are the lower bolts? Do I need to remove the splash guards? Also--I asked a question about the trunk a while back and someone told me to adjust the latch up a bit so the release would work--it worked for 3 days and now it won't open EVEN with someone pulling up on it--I am screwed too without a key--does this mean the seats have to come out? Does anyone locally know how to adjust the trunk latch properly? I will travel to get this fixed. I'd hate to go to a body shop for something so small--you all know how fast it will be escalated into at least a $200 job there.

Thanks

Mark

EDIT! Since I used our area in the title--let me throw this out as well--is there any interest in a meet up/tech session either soon or in the spring? I'd offer up my place--I have a garage--but it sucks with no heat or power. Maybe just a get together and drive? I organized a succesful integra meet this summer and had a blast---cookout and keg at my place and a drive to the canal for pictures--it was great. Are there many classic owners around us? I never see ANY! Since I bought my car I have seen 2 classics--both in the boston area and no mods/"regular older people" driving. You can't miss me--white classic--loud as hell with my ghetto fabulous 4 inch yellow exhaust tip, and always cruising at 7500 plus rpms! I need to get my trunk open to fill my no2 tank by the way--hence the urgency!
Also--if there are any no2 users in the area---where to get the tank filled cheap? I pay 45 bones at speed shack in norwood--OUCH!
Any interest in a dyno day here?

I'm not too familiar, but I think there is a write up on the hinges on the se-r.net faq. I could be wrong. I didn't think you needed remove anything. Not sure though.....

Explain the trunk problem a little more thoroughly. I had problems with my trunk awhile back. I feel your pain. The torsion bars on it broke, that sucker is heavy!!!

I'm up for a meet. I don't have any cash to do anything right now though. School kicked my ass in costs this fall. Hopefully I can do some stuff in the spring. I'm not sure if Salt Fest is gonna happen this year. I wouldn't doubt if some meetings are in the works already.

I'm in the boston area all the time man. My car looks stock besides the tints. But, you can definitely hear my intake/header growl when I'm accelerating. I'll be traveling to Canton all winter on the VFW and 128 to my Co-op job.

I would love to dyno my car. I just need to resolve a few minor issues I currently have. That place sounds like a good deal. You may want to call them for the N02 filling, I noticed they mention it on the site. Good luck with the door man.

Yeah you need to take the fender well off and if you are going to take the whole fender off than you need to take 3 bolts that are bolted to the bumper oh yeah and the most important part is to make sure you get the right part!!!! otherwise you will try for hours trying to put the bottom door hinge in the top one and finally figuring out that it isn't the right one, its just off a little not that I had to do this or anything LOL. good luck.

In order to remove and lift up the fender you do need to remove the inner fender liner (the plastic part). At least partially anyway.

Right where the wheel well arch meets the bottom of the car at the backside of the wheel opening, there is a smaller plastic peice that is held on by several screws. Take this off and you will see to or three 10mm bolt heads. remove these and if you also remove enough of the srews holding the inner fender liner in i think there is one or two more ten mm bolt head that it helps to remove.

Taking these off will allowyou to get to the back side of the hinge and then it is easy from there with the right set of sockets and extensions.

Take it easy and hope that helps.
BTW I am not in the Mass area but i did this recently and it is fresh in my mind. I also kinda have a knack for explaining automotive things to people.

Anyway sorry for the long post.

Hey,

I'm here in Southern Mass, half way between Worcester and Providence.

My poor car has been out of commission since Octorber from a spun bearing at a track day. But it's back together and getting the final touches done to adjustment.

Anyway, as far as the door thing, I actually brought mine to a friends body shop up in Methuen, I was living in NH at the time, so it was easy.

But they did it in less than an hour and only charged me $60 cash.

But as far as what they did, they didn't remove the fender or anything, they just got in, took the door off, by removing it from the hinges, You need someone to hold it, so the wire (power windows/mirrors) don't get ruined. They then were able to remove the hinges from the car. I forget how, but with just a rachet and sockets, maybe a universal joint. Then they slapped on the new ones rebolted the door, then "ALIGNED" it by doing the good old yank up on the door to locate the hinges.

I do lots of AutoXing in the New England area, so meets during the summer are usually out, unless you want to do one at an event.
