ok, hang with me on this. My det swap has developed the tap. Yeah, no kidding, im sure its the hydraulics got air in them, but maybe...

i read a post where sombody had suggested that thicker oil viscosities could cause our hydraulics to operate slower?...causing the valve timing to change?..and causing bad fuel economy. does anyone think that my tapping could be associated with the oil? It developed right after the last oil change, and its really cold right now? im about to do an oil change, but what do yall think about 20-50?

20W-50 is way too thick. I don't have a DET, but even if I did I wouldn't go higher than 10W-40.

ive never heard of putting anything higher than 10w-40 in any nissan engines....they are designed with 10w-30 or 40 in mind......they come from the factory with 10w-30 (not sure if its mineral or synthetic, but i think its synthetic on the vq and vk) and we put 10w-30 in every nissan we service, and i'll bet most dealers do, colder climates using lighter, and warm climates using a little heavier, but not 20-50.....so my guess is its a result of the oil being too thick.
