: New clutch slipping???

All new stuff...lightened flywheel and stage 3 clutch. I can launch it fine but as soon as I put any pedal into it she slips. I let all the slack out of the cable so I know it's engaged when the pedal is released. It's a GTIR in an Altima. Any ideas guys? Thanks!!

how long did you break in the clutch for? what is the clutch made of?

This was the first drive I took. As soon as I changed to second and applied a little pressure to the pedal it started to slip so I turned around and went home. Sorry I'm not sure what the clutch was made of but I can find out if it's important. Thanks for the reply.

Find out what brand and material it's made of. Your new flywheel and clutch surface may not be compatible, or proper for each other.

most clutches have a 200 mile break in period. depending of what the clutch is made out of you can glaze over the friction surface making it worth less.

I've heard putting in your disc backwards will cause some major slipping.

The clutch is a kevlar disk and I'm using the cusco lightwight flywheel. Man I hope it's compatible! Can you really install the disk backwards? I called the place where I bought the clutch and he said I might have to drive it easy for up to 1000k before it starts to grip...sounds like bs to me. Thanks for the help bro's.

I have seen problems with kevlar a glazing so be gentle.

SO should I not drive it anymore or do as the guy said and try to break it in? I just don't wanna ruin my new flywheel. Have any of you ever had a clutch that slipped UNTIL you broke it in? Also if there was a little grease or somehting on there will it wear off or keep slipping? Thanks again!!

the flywheel should have been wiped down prior to installing the clutch. If there is some grease on the surface it should burn off. I have not heard of a clutch slipping until it was broken in. I have heard of clutches slipping because they were improperly broken in. In any case I would drive the car and try to be gentle(drive like grama) for a few hundred miles. If the clutch is slipping under normal acceleration there is a problem. I had none of these problems with my act/findaza setup.

I have to accelerate really slow in order for it not to slip. I bet he forgot to wipe the flywheel down before he installed it. Hopefully it was just some crap that needs/will burn off.

If you tried to launch on a spanken new clutch then played with it to find out it was slipping you might as well go to the bank now and buy a new clutch. Most likely your flywheel is ok unless you sat on it for a long while. If it is a carbon-kevlar clutch... go yell at yourself in the mirror, then yell at the yoink hole that sold it to you for not telling you that carbon-kevlar clutches require warm up time to be effective and are pretty much the biggest PITA to drive on the street because they don't warm up for most of your trips around town.

u need to break in the clutch. if it doenst break in properly, like someone said, u'll glaze the surface than u're screwd. and yea, as someone else said, u need to make sure the surface is clean or else that can ruin the disc surface too. Before i install a clutch, i always spray down the flywheel with brake cleaner to get rid of all the grease.

Oh I didn't launch it hard at all...just drove normally. I guess I'll drive it more tonight and hope it stops slipping when it warms up. Just don't want to break anything or mess it up more. Thanks again for the responses.

well, dont red line it or anything either, doesnt have to do with just launching it, try to shift as soon as possible. Best way to break it in is to go in stop adn go traffic. Highway miles also dont count towards break in
