My friend's 96 se-r with just an air filter dogged a 02' Neon R/T with intake and exhaust all the time. My friend put in the intake cam and exhaust and tripled the ass-whipping!....So don't be afraid of that 4-cylinder domestic...Best i've seen them run at the track was a 16.5 with I/E

All the neons I see at the local drag strips out here run 14's all motor with just bolt ons.

There are two different Doge Neon RTs...pre 2000 editions had the nice DOHC 150hp 4cyl, while the current version has the SOHC ... the DOHC is a stong puller thought the low rpms... of course the Neon itself is fairly heavier than the nissan.

Actually the new H.O. SOHC engine in the 2nd gen R/Ts has a little more low end power with its 2 stage intake manifold and SOHC design (dodge SOHC engines always seem to have more midrange than top-end), while the 1g DOHC neons had more top end power.

The new neon R/Ts weigh 2750 (about the same as the new sentra SE's i believe) but the 1st generation neon r/ts weighed in around 2550 based on options.

My DOHC expresso weighed 2450~ when it was new. :)

The only new neons that I would give a thought to would be the ACRs, wiehging 2550~ or so with 150hp and 136~ tq. It wouldnt be blazingly fast but should be good for a 15.7-15.8, if you can drive really well. At least, thats what my sources say. Im more of a fan of the 1g neons anyway.

ACRs? haven't seen one of those in CA..just in the magazines. Fairly limited run...only 5000 or so?

BTW, my friend 98 R/T pulls off the line fairly well. maybe he's done a few things to it...but he's still giving away a couple hundred pounds to my 200SX

yeah the First generation neons' strongest gears are usually 1st and 2nd, so they do get off the line quick, but if you compare the dynos of a 1st gen DOHC and a 2nd gen H.O. SOHC, the SOHC will make more power lower in the rev range than the DOHC will.

How much does your 200SX weigh???

Well my little brother has a 1st gen. Neon with ported intake, bigger T/B, pullies, motor mounts, headers w/ N1 muffler, Iceman, ECU and he beats me by at least 2 cars till about mid fourth. I got a 96' SER w PR CAI, HS 4th, Random cat, Greedy, ES MM and he just starts to crawl on me so these cars do get some respect from me at least. I think I created a monster but the cams are going in and we will see what the S4 will do with the ECU.

I don't know much about the neons, but i saw one the other day on route 66 in Va. that made my mouth water. I believe it was a brand new ACR neon. It was all black with a small unoffensive wing, black rims with yellow lettering on it... That little car was sweet, too bad it was being driven by an old lady and her husband. I would have liked taking it for a run.

Still that little neon looked sweet as hell.

AHHHH, I love these things.
Two cars that give us a good race are the Si and R/T.
I have raced 2 stock R/T and beat them both but not by much.
The R/T driver hollared as I passed him "I thought I would get you". ( in a nice funny tone ) :D

I think the Si is harder to handle. Maybe its the Vtec sound taht scares me BWAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Here's my two cents- I smoke modded R/t's at the autocross events. My ex roomate has an '01 R/T and I get him until the !@$# speed limiter stops me, then he soes flying past me! My car has PRI, cat-back w. magnafow and test pipe, and lots of supension goodies.
Now the ACR is another story, many times the stock ACR will out run me in an autocross, but most of the ACR drivers around here are VERY talented older gentlemen.
