hey guys

I need some help. I went DET shopping/hunting today and came across a guy who has some DET's, my problem is I could not tell if they where from Bluebirds and if they were RWD or AWD(they did have red valve covers). So one of my questions is what visually can I look for to be certain that its the AWD version (the ones I saw didnt have trannys bolted to them). There were variations on the water inlet-outlet nossle to the radiator, I even saw some with aluminum silver-non polished nor painted VC's. Aside from visual clues that will let me know if its the AWD Version, are there any other things to check that will give indication as to any abuse of the engine. Which leads me to my next question. I asked the guy what they do to make sure the engine is not DOA and he said they do a "leak down test" and briefly described what is was, he also showed me a honda engine that just finished being put thru the test. The resulting numbers written on the exhaust manifold were as following: "14 12 16 16". So my question is are these numbers good what are: "excellent, good, average, horrible-numbers" of a leak down test on the DET, that way I have something to go by when he performs the test IN FRONT of me.
-I am looking to buy this weekend all and any other info that you guys can think of will be greatly appreciated

Well i know of a couple of hings that you can look for on DET's so i will let ya know. Disclaimer firs though, I so not own a DET but i have been doing my research as well so this is what i came up with.

First of all and pobably most obvious is the distributor and fan. In an AWD DET the distributor is mounted on the flywheel side of the engine sticking out over the flywheel. On a RWD DET the distributor is on the side of the engine hanging out over the exhaust manifold. It is also more towards the pulley side of he engine. The RWD ones have fans mounted on the front of them as well and the AWD ones do not.

Most (about 95%) of the AWD engines were also automatics so they actually have a flexplate instead of a flywheel. It is much thinner than a flywhel and will not have the machined surface for the clutch. It will look like a thin piece of sheet metal compared to a flywheel.

Also check ot this site for some good pics of a RWD DET... http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4292413543

And i wish you luck with your swap. Hopefully i will be joining the ranks ofhe DET's soon myself.

Well, the best guy to call for the swap is Chris Parker at SR20Development. Tell him I sent you. 1-619-69-TURBO. They've done more swaps than anyone.

Well I think I have done more turbo swaps than them, but if you are on the west coast SR20 Developments are the best way to go to.

You might be right Andreas. But I saw that he was in So. Cal so that's why I said that. No offense to you.
