I'm looking for an inexpensive front STB that does the job and is quality built. I'm not interested in flashyness or looks.
I've seen them for sale on Ebay but the bracket that holds the bar looks flimsy. The bracket on the pdm-racing one looks flimsy too.
Any suggested brands and places to get one?
TIA

I think anything is going to do the job. I have a Stillen STB in my 91 and a cheaper one in my 92. I even had a 40 dollar one in my 1.6 the braket does't move anywhere just holds the bar in one place.so IMHO if your not conserned about brand name or looks save the money

Check out ebay - type in strut bar sentra, or whatever. There are always at least half a dozen that can be had for under $35 or so, some even less. I figure if it fits the car and remains rigid it's doing its job - and yes, I have one of them ;)

This is an old pic. The end of the strut bar you can't see (passenger side) has a relief cut to clear some stuff right around the strut tower.
Isn't it true that those cheap aftermarket bars do NOTHING? Even if you have a good quality adj unit with preload--or a good stock unit such as I have in my Lexus, I still can't tell the difference with these. I bought the cheapy for my integra off ebay for 40 bones---matrix was the name. it did nothing. I then took off the mounting plates and slotted the 6 bolt holes, (radiased out towards the engine). I then bought some nice stainless locking washers, put the bar on, washers then the nuts hand tight. I then put my hood up (way up) and had my "large" friend sit on the bar. You wouldn't beleive how much of the slot this used up--about 1/2 inch on BOTH sides. I then tightened and torqued the shit out of the bolts. I guess since my friend weighs in at 275---I must have had about 200#'s pre load dialed in! I did notice a difference with that. The steering felt ver tight and I had a LOT more road feel--as in if I hit a bump with the df tire, I felt it take the hole front end for the dip and such. Just adding my spare change. If you are getting one of these cheap bars, you may want to slot the holes and pre load them---or they are just a decoration. I have never seen a fron adj bar, but my rear is adj, with a turnbuckle in the middle----those work as well. Anybody who tells you that sticking a hollow cast al bar with all that slop and no adj is going to "stiffen your chasis" has no idea what they are talking about. Go look at a sports car from the factory--and check the oe front strut tower bars. They are heavy, solid, and very rigid--and there is no slop----they are hard to install.

Exactly why I'm looking for a quality STB and don't care about the looks.
I'm wondering how much the front end flexes anyways. You'd think you'd see the hood clearances changing and rubbing during hard maneuvers, or that silastic goo they put between body panels splitting due to the constant flexing if the chassis were that non-rigid.
Strange.
(though I could tell a difference on my 240SX with and without the TRUST bar installed.)
trust is a good name---and a guy from CT stopped at my house a month ago to buy some rims--and he had the JWT bar and it looked great as well. If you look at a trust or jwt or custom race stb, then look at the ones on Ebay---you will know what I am talking about. Also--I am guessing the 240 would benefit much more from the bar, than would a fwd car. I am hypothesizing here, as I am more of a motor man--than suspension, but I would think there is far less flex in the front suspension of a fwd car, with the drive axles pushing the wheels out and not alowing much slop. But alas---there are MANY autocross gurus on here who will give you a much better answer in time than I can. Just offering up my thoughts and oppinions
EDIT---"I'm wondering how much the front end flexes anyways." sorry---one other thing I thought of---you may not notice in your climate---but if you were in a cold climate like I am, you can tell when a chasis flexes a lot easier. The best way to get a feel for chasis flex is to frive an 87 mustang convertible over railroad track crossing in the 10 degrees, then drive a 94 lexus ls 400 over the same tracks in the same temp--then you know what chasis flex is and can gauge cars on it. The Se-R is VERY flexy. Probably not much worse than other same type cars of that vintage. The only thing I can do is compare my 91 teg to my 93 se-r--and the nissan flexes a lot more. This will be more evident next month when we start gettig the posts from people in cold climates asking "what is that noise when I hit a bump--only does it in winter" For the most part--that is their chasis flexing--the cold exasserbates whatever chasis flex was already there.
