Year: 1992 Make: NISSAN Model: NX Recall Date: 05/01/1997

Type of Report: Vehicle

Potential Number of Units Affected: 36000

Manufactured: 10/1990 - 12/1991

Defect Summary:
THE RELEASE BUTTON USED IN THE REAR SEAT BELT BUCKLES WERE NOT MADE ACCORDING TO SPECIFICATIONS. IN HOT WEATHER, THE PLASTIC WELDS SECURING THE RELEASE BUTTON TO THE SPRING CAN FAIL RESULTING IN PARTIAL ENGAGEMENT OF THE SEAT BELT TONGUE IN THE BUCKLE OR NOT BEING ABLE TO LATCH THE SEAT BELT.

Consequence Summary:

Corrective Summary:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE ALL REAR SEAT BELT BUCKLES WITH NEW SEAT BELT BUCKLES.

I had both front and rear done already. If your seatbelts are past the red line that reads REPLACE BELT then it is supposed to be replaced under warranty.

my comes out *** from moving around, not to mention hard braking but it is the front, altho i haven't sat in the back yet, it might also do that.

Just take you car to the stealer, and have them replace them. It's a warrany issue, so there will (or shouldn't be) any cost to you.

When I first bought my NX (used) I took
it in to get the rear buckles fixed, both
buttons were jammed in. The dealer put
some new ones in. They weren't the original
style but still looked factory. Can't
complain... they did it for free since it was
a safety item.

FWIW I asked about buckles unlatching by themselves (and maybe get new front buckles)
and they told me to just make sure I was pushing them in all the way. If that doesn't fix the
problem I would show them exactly how easily it comes undone.

Back seat buckles? Back seat? Who has a back seat? :)

When I had the VA safety inspection done, one of the reasons it didn't pass the first time (other than the hole in the flex pipe...AARRGGHH!) was that I had removed the back seat and the buckles, but not the seat/shoulder belt. The inspection place said that since the belt was in place, I HAD to have the buckles in place also, EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NO REAR SEAT!

GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!

Everybody who has had the unfortunate luck to sit in my back seat always has to sit sideways and the thought of having to wear a seatbelt in that position is rediculous.

I think they should just do a safety recall on the whole back seat and have it removed.
