The other day i went to replace my ball joints...pressed the old ones out, then went to put the new ones in, and they fell into the holes. I measured them, the origional was 1.542" the new 1.500". So i thought maybe autozone gave me the wrong ones. I called them up, but they gave me the same part # i already had, so took them back, then went to napa, theres were also 1.500", along with another local auto parts store. Why are they small? Or were the ones that were in to big? If the ones i took out were to big and stretched the hole, what am i to do with a hole thats to big?

I replaced mine, hassle free. Sounds like something fishy. Although I never measured my old vs new ones, I figured they'd be the same overall diameter. I'll order some into work tomorrow, and measure.

I don't mean to bring back an old thread but I was searching because the same thing is happening to me and I was wonder if they really are suppose to be this same or is something wrong, or how are the smaller ones working for anyone who has them installed in their car

I installed an autozone one on my car and it fits nice and snug without any problems. You might have to buy a new control arm with ball joint if yours doesn't fit tightly.

Try the Moog or Perfection brands. They seem to fit the first time. I had problems with aftermarket ones as well.

The moog's fit but the federal mogul ones don't. I put a micrometer on both as well as OEM and there's no way the federals fit.

I know the ford guys have to tack weld their ball joints in the early Ford Probes...just a thought

They gave me the wrong one, right box, wrong ball joint, they are only 36.99 at Advanced

Got the right one the first time at Autozone. They shouldn't just slide in. We hadta use a press just to get them back in, and it took a good ammount of power to get em back. If they just slide in, either they're the wrong size or you screwed up your control arm.
