I wanted to take a pic of this thing so I figured, you guys might enjoy it. I'm going to change the o2 sensor tomorrow, so I've been letting it run down. With the gas needle at that position, it took 9.75 gal. Notice the absolutely horrid gas mileage.

First time for me. I have never let my gas level that low before.

Peace,
Mike

Reread the post and know thinking that maybe my gas light does not work, because I have run it down to taking a little over 10 gallons and never saw the light.

HAHA!! for real! I've run out of gas 4 or 5 times in my car because of the sporatic mileage! I've gotten anywhere from 270 to 370 miles to a tank and drive at least 50 miles with the light on!

http://www.sr20de.org/images/images/Sentra%20SE-R%20(Classics)/gaslight.jpg Dude when was the last time you had the car on a consult? 15 mpg the car has some problem's. More than the o-2 sensor I think?:(

For about the last month, i've been getting the horrible gas mileage. I just did the o2 sensor today, and I don't think that thing was ever changed. But anyways, the best mileage i've ever got was 27mpg (mixed city/highway). If the o2 doesn't do it, I'll go the stealership and have them run the consult.

Obviously you guys never really been broke. :p

I hav pushed my car to gas stations many of times trying to get that one ounce out. I remember when Walter, Steve and me came from E-Town one day and were headed outto Shea Stadium for Hot Import Nights and I took a turn waaaay too hard. Imagine doing around 70 around a turn then shutting off with traffic behind you. Now thats living. You pussies!

My car sputters at 1/4 of a tank on right hand turns ever since my fuel pump was recall replaced.

I just keep my car full.

Have you ever had yours diagnosed? I can only imagine the problem is a bad fuel sender.

When my car sputters at 1/4 tank on the gauge, after I fill it back up, I can only fill it back with 8 or so gallons, so I know my gauge isn't off.

i've just been living with the problem.. since the previous owner is so cool he actually told me about it before i noticed it myself.. would a new fuel pump include a sending unit?? i noticed craig had some performance fuel pumps at his shop... a while ago..

cheesh, at 120k i think my o2 sensor is finally starting to fail..

I've seen my gas light go on lie 3 times before, I 'm not getting good gas mileage and always pushing for that extra bit. I put more than 11 gallons in my car one day atleast thats what the pump said???

My gas light comes on at around 10.2 gallons of use...which means with a 13.2 gallson tank, then we have about 3 gallons to spare before empty. :)

That light is different than the little green dot that appears on the 93 when gas is low....

I've never seen mine... And I have put about 11 gallons in it... Of course, it wouldn't start and I had to get a couple of gallons before it would start...

I have put 10.5 gallons in it with it still starting... What I don't understand is why have a 13 gallon tank if you can't use more than 10 of it? That and I wish I knew why it sputters on startup half of the time....

probaly just the pick up arm or the sender is the problem. I know ive seen my little dot like 3 times and all 3 times i could barely get in 11 gallons. which i think is weird. ive heard most cars like to have a 50 mile reserve when the light comes on, but classics end up with like a 90-100 mile reserve if you are getting the proper 30mpg's

The pump and the sending unit are two different items.

I changed my sending unit a couple of summers ago.

Notes:

When getting parts, get the O-ring seal for the gas tank. It needs to be changed every time you open and unscrew that plate under the rear seats that goes to the gas tank. It's a cheap part, no biggie.

Remove the fuse for the fuel pump and let the car run out of gas. Then "start" (crank it over) it a few times to clear as much gas and pressure out of the lines as possible.

Get a couple of rubber bands and some saran wrap and tie off the fuel hoses once you remove them. Makes life much easier.

It's not hard at all, and it's much better having a working fuel gauge again - peace of mind :)

I'm still running the original O2 sensor at 184,000 miles. Still returns 27-33 mpg. I always wait until the light comes on- usually put in around 11 gallons or so, although my record is 12.8.
