I was woundering what it would be to get a 6 speed trans for my classic .. i know that i saw a post a little while back about this but the answer does not have me.. the other thing is that if there are any part numers or car's it came out of would be cool.
How much? A lot.
The Spec-V tranny doesn't bolt up, so figure anything with that many cogs is going to come from Japan.
The SE 2.0 turbo SEMA show car has a beefier Pulsar N1 five-speed box. Expensive.
Mike Kojima says the six-speed on the new Primera "20V" might work, but I don't know that anyone has tried. Again, expensive.
A beefed-up stock tranny with Quaffe LSD is in your cards if you're shooting for turbo.

I am wondering why you would want to do this? I mean, it sounds like it'll be a shit-load of money for not a major amount of performance improvement. The stock trans is great IMO (except for that pop-out thing). Why are you looking to spend so much money for so little gain?

I wouldnt be suprised if u could just add another gear on the shaft in the box it shouldnt be that hard. There not much to it and ull get shorter gear ratios. And ud be a freekin hardass with a 6speed classic.
JWT and friends used the JDM Pulsar tranny on their turbo project car because the stock tranny eats third gear with that kind of power. They bought it new in the box from Japan - extremely expensive.
There are posts about welding the stock tranny case and cryo-treating the gears if you're going turbo.
Any of those other things you're suggesting would be worth more than your car.

NO, good replys i like this just wanted to know a little if it was possable, but i like that you give me a alternative to that. Like a beefed up 5 speed and i dont want to spend like tons of cash for a little improvement keep it coming. i am thinking about turbos 2 thats why the trans thing came up. What should be done to the stock trans to give it some beef thanks !! I love answers !! :D

http://books.dreambook.com/npturner/primera.html This site has 2 people in other countries who have installed a 6 speed tranny on the Sr20vvl.

I thought that the Triptronic CVT(Constant varible tranmission?) was an automatic? I think the SR16vvl N1 has a 6-speed manual but I think it had a cable shifter, so you'd have to get the shifter, shifter cable with the trans and make it work.
