Hey everyone, I dont usually check this section of the forum, so if my question has been answered before, please let me know where i can find it, if not, here it is...
What all is involved in doing a DET swap into a 240? I was looking on the auto trader, and I found quite a few under $4000, and I was curious how straight forward the swap is, and if there's a lot needed to get everything hooked up.
thanks
Ok I have been wondering the same thing. The way I figure is I could get a Late 80's early 90's S13 for $1000 or less. Then buy the motor for $2000. So that's only $3000 uninstalled. For a boosted 240. HOw hard is it??

You won't find a complete setup for 2000. The swap is fairly straitforward. Everything just drops right in. the wiring is also documented and available. You can buy a whole front clip for around 3000-3500 for a redtop and just swap everything over yourself and have a stock setup. This is the cheapest way. Otherwise the price can shoot up to about 5 grand on up depending on what you buy for it. :D

The used 240sx from 1989-1990 (S13) for $1000 or less
sounds fine
the price for a redtop sr20det its kind of expensive..
I can get them over here for $950 with tranny
no ecu or harness...
the ecu can be found i guess for $250 (stock one)
just put a haltech or an SDS
id say SDS =)

for $1100 you get the whole harness plus camtrigger and no need for laptop its really easy to setup with a little screen to set up the values...check out the site.

Would that be including the JDM headlights and all? That's another thing that I was wanting to do is that swap. Here's my main dilema. I want a fast straight line car. Something that's able to put stock to mildly modded V8's in their place. But I also don't want a big lead sled. I have been toying with the idea of either a swapped 240, or a 98 gsx.

If you mean the lights off of a Silvia........maybe. You would have to talk to the importer. I have heard of clips coming with the body panels just never inquired how much they cost. :D

You may also want to consider a KA24DET. The additional displacement creates more torque than the SR at lower rpm. Many kits are available, but you can also build your own - less cash, more effort.
Both motors have pros & cons - just want you to be aware.
Jason at www.unstable-hybrids.com has performed KA, SR and RB swaps. Drop him a line.

PS. After seeing motors come in as "sets" and "front clips", I would recommend the front clip. Advantages: add battery and fuel tank to start it up - ALL the parts you will need - components typically better protected during trans-Pacific journey - sometimes you find "gems" still attatched (brakes, dash, steering wheel, gauges, etc) - you may get a glimpse of how the car lived and died via the chassis.
