Shoot, the core itself is $410.00 from Spearco. F-Max fabricates tanks and welds them on, adds inlet and outlet pipes, and makes the brackets so it bolts to the car. Plus they have to make a little money to keep the lights on.

Rob--

I understand that they have to make money, as I own a business myself. The market will bear what it will bear. However, if one were to look around, one could find intercooler assemblies of the same quality/size/flow rates for less money.

I know I did. :D

There are several intercoolers which could be had for $625.00. We sell the XS Engineering Silvia (20x10x3) cores with endtanks for that price. You can also get the exact same core with different endtanks from Spearco for a few bucks less than FMAX. RRE sells the Griffen cores (20x10x3) w/ HKS endtanks for $400.00-$450.00. $600.00 will get you a lot of intercooler these day, escpecially if you shop around.

Exactly, Louis. There's more than 2 brands of intercoolers on the market. :D Especially if you go outside the US. ;)

will a 20X10X3 fit behind the bumper without having to remove the bumper support? i would rather not remove the bumper support if i dont have to, as insurance isnt too friendly to you if you dont have this in place.

I've been doing some fitting, as I'm using a core at least that big.. If you don't have AC, i believe you can remove the condenser, ditch the vertical support from the latch mechanism to the lower radiator support, weld brackets to your intercooler to take over the latch support function, and set the intercooler on the lower radiator support. It will be a close fit, maybe requiring a tiny amount of shaving, but you won't have to remove the bumper. Here's a pic of a 20x10 griffin core (wrapped in cardboard and bubblewrap) sitting on the lower radiator support in a b13, where the condenser used to be. it tucks in pretty nice.

to retain the AC and that vertical support, you're gonna have to do some cutting. You can cut out the bumper support, leaving only the upper horizontal part to support the bumper skin and still probably fit a pretty big core.

I wopuld say anything taller that 6.5" will require some cutting of teh core support. This was the case when I installed my RevHard 20"x8"x3.5" intercooler. This is also the case with my new XS Engineering 24"x10.94"x3" intercooler. The Griffen (20"x10"x3") or XS Slivia (20"x10"x3") cores will need some cutting, but it shouldn't be bad. *Remember* there is always a trade off when adding aftermarket performance parts to any vehicle.
