Ok guys i am thinking about buying a white 93 nx 2000. Its from a dealership, i would appreciate any helpful advice to talk down. It was on ebay for 1600$ there was no bids and the reserve was not met. They claim it to be in excellent conditions inside and out, so i told them with the high miles 140,00(lol we all know thats not high for a nx) i told them i would give them 1800. any ideas guys?

Come with a flashlight.. and something to neal on.. and be very anal and make sure they at least think you know what you are looking at?

don't bs, just be serious and don't rag on the car a whole bunch but ask about the little oil leaks.. the little missing parts.. etc.. whatever you can.

good luck :)

Low Down, where is this NX located. If it's in the Milwaukee area and you want a second opinion I'll take a look at it for you. Chris

While sales guy is looking:

1) tug on the CV boots - see of they're ripped or not
2) either remove rear carpet-like substance from strut towers (inside), or, remove rear fender liners (or both) if you live in an area where they salt the roads, there's a good possibility there'll be rust - especially on the drivers side - inner and outer sheet metal.
3) test drive - fifth gear synchro prob?
4) lower rear portion of tailgate - rust?
5) A-Pillars - rust?
6) emerg brake in working order?
7) clean strong idle?
8) missing that arm rest thingy?

These are just things I'm thinking of which go wrong with NXs and might provide points of discussion when you start bargaining.

I ALWAYS take the attitude that it's not the last car in the world - that there are others in better shape at lower prices - be prepared to walk away whistling a tune like you don't give a rat's ass either way. Don't be a smart-ass, just smile and be friendly. People in the used car game are used to people trying to outsmart them - they're very jaded. Put on a bit of flake and pretend like you might be an idiot.

I'm sure you're not an idiot. I've found that a lot of buyers walk into these places acting like they're determined not to get screwed. I've found that a slightly "flaky" attitude - happy-go-lucky, you might buy an NX - or "maybe one of those Grand Am cars - do they get good mileage?" don't really care - lowers their guard. Friendly rapport - and then gradually start looking the car over - low key and light, pointing out flaws here and there. Most times you don't have to verbally point them out - i.e. touch the rust mark and throw him a glance - HE'LL start talking.

Side skirts - it was before x-mas right? Sorry, I've been busy. I still have them.
