: cv boots NX$paniard 01-18-2002, 09:19 AM whats up again! just out of curiosity.... i wanna see what you guys think. I go through CV boots like rosie o'donnell goes through ho-ho's.. no really it feels like im rippin boots too frequently.. yeah yeah i know theyre not hard to change but all that god forsaken grease all over my nice tsw wheels isnt fun to clean and dont look very schnazzy......anyone feel my pain? 1BAD_NX 01-18-2002, 10:40 AM Are you driving the car on rough terrain too much? or maybe bad install? or low quality boots? I drive my car a lot and my boots haven't been such a problem, but all I do is occasional street racing and my car always stays away from bad surfaces. when my boots go bad I usually change the whole axle for about $55 for each side (I think changing boots is much hussle and not worth it,but that could just be me). Anyways, what are your mods on the car? Nick thepep 01-18-2002, 12:02 PM Don't know if this is relevant to your situation but my boots would constantly rip too. I was pissed. I finally found the reason. When I had upgraded to Tokico struts, there was no bracket for the ABS hose line (or one of the lines). This has a metal piece on it for stock mounting. As the suspension moved up and down this metal piece would cut the CV boot. I just zip tied the hose in place and have never replaced a boot since. Something to check if you own aftermarket struts. Its a local shop around my way (DC metro area) and they charge about $100 ($60 for axle and $40 for core exchange). This price is quoted about 4months ago when I did my passenger side. I can double check on price if anyone is interested.
