Well as the title says, I'm looking to find out what the best cat. is for the classic se-r? I know the random tech. is pretty good, but it is like $180. I thought about catco, but I can't seem to find any online prices for them.

What do you need it for? Need it to pass smog? or just trying to get rid of a restriction (which the cat really is not that much of a restriction unless you boost or squeeze a whole bunch, or if it is toast)
get a cheap cat if it is for smog, and a test pipe for afterwards. The cost of replacing the gaskets will be much cheaper than getting a spendy hi-flo cat....

here in l.a i gotten prices for $130 for a catco installed.high flow cats really don't make a big difference like some people think 12 to 14hp. if your willing to spend that kind of money buy a cam or a cai

Go to www.summitracing.com. You want a 12" long 2 1/2" cat, Summit's part number is CTO-6806. Put that number in the "Enter Your Summit Part Number" box, to search for it.

The reason that I inquired about a high flow cat. is because I thought I would need one if I got an header and exhaust setup to take real advantage of the power.

Do your homework before you spend your money...!!!
The stock cat flows well if it is in good condition. You should be able to tell if it is good or not when you have the secondary off the stock manifold off during your header install...

I know that this post is old, but I'll reply to it anyways. :) Is it your cat. or muffler bad? I couldn't quit tell exactly which one it was in your post. If you need a cat, I have a 2.25" Catco with flanges that you can get. They are both brand new and never been used.

At what amount of mileage does it make sense to switch out the cat? Just picked up a '93 SE-R with 107k on the engine. The outside of the cat looks pretty dark and crusty -- maybe time for a new one?

The only way to really tell is to take the cat. off and look through it. If you can see light at the other end pretty easily then you should be fine. The light should look like someone is holding a flashlight off in the distance to the cat.

For future searches:
Keep in mind that you need the Catco CTO-6805 for 2.25" diameter, Catco CTO-6806 for 2.5" systems

Does the Catco mentioned above come with flanges or is it a universal that needs to be welded?

These are both the universal versions that require flanges to be welded on.
