: Thin Fans With Turbos....
ProjectSE-R 01-20-2002, 01:43 AM Who here is running thinner cooling fans with their turboed car? I think I heard that Jay Hassinger had a set. Does anyone know the brands that will fit and COOL the hell out of our cars? How about price...Im hoping for McIntosh quality at a Sparkomatic price! :D
SucKit 01-20-2002, 02:25 AM Have you seen the Koyo radiators that they have for our cars now? Its listed at http://www.absoluteradiator.com Its 55mm and was used on the 300zx on SCC. Looks really nice and seems to be a nice upgrade, that or and oil cooler rather than a fan.
se-riously boosted 01-20-2002, 09:09 PM U can get any better than KRACO quality at your local autozone parts store:D . We picked some up for like $65 bucks and they almost reduce about 1-1/2" of spacing. U just have to cut and tap the wires into your harness.(make sure u have them going the right way otherwise they will push the air instead of pull).
ProjectSE-R 01-21-2002, 12:30 AM Really? Autozone? Was that price for both? That really sounds like the way I need to go. One fan is just not cutting it, even with the bigger radiator and Water Wetter. How well do they cool?
Zak91SER 01-21-2002, 03:59 AM I bought a NISMO radiator for my SE-R. It's more efficient than the SE-R and NX radiators, and bigger than the SE-R radiator. Then I got a pair of Flex-A-Lite puller fans (FLX-230).

These suckers flow 2500 cfm, it feels like a wind tunnel when they turn on. All we had to do to make them fit was trim the plastic on the outside of the fan housings where the radiator piping is. Once we did that, the fans dropped right in. Here's a picture of the fans installed.

Those combined with water injection should keep my car cool enough on the track. I did drive it around during the day in 80 degree weather for a while, with the AC on and boosting almost constantly... the temp needle never moved above where it normally is, and that was without water injection. So far so good.
b-b00gie 01-21-2002, 12:28 PM Do you mean FLX-210? The 230 appears to be a pusher fan and the 210 has the same specs but it says its a puller.
Zak91SER 01-21-2002, 01:31 PM Whoops, you may be right... I thought the 230 was the puller style. I went over this when I actually got the fans, and got the puller fans so it probably was the 210s.
b-b00gie 01-21-2002, 01:48 PM Yeah I checked the Flex-a-lite website, it is the 210.
BTW if anyone is interested, I noticed some sites selling these fans for $350!!! but Summit sells them for $205. Not sure why theres such a price difference.
Thomas Reynolds 01-21-2002, 08:22 PM Zak, the website said these have adjustable thermostats (180-240deg). What did you adjust yours to?
How well does it fit around the radiator? How did you mount it to the car? How much room do you think it saved?
Zak91SER 01-22-2002, 05:54 PM I didn't use the thermostats - SR20 Development just wired the fans into the stock fan wires. So they come on when the stock fans do. It fits really well, you just have to cut some of the plastic out to make it fit around the radiator inlet and outlet pipes. Once you do that it drops right in. The fans sit right in place, and we zip-tied it to the support bars. I don't know how much room it saved really, because I don't have the stock manifold on my car. But as you can see from the picture there is a good amount of room between the fans and the manifold, even with the manifold sticking out like it does.
ProjectSE-R 01-22-2002, 10:42 PM Damn, great info and pics, thanks guys. I tried all I could yesterday and today to get her to stay cool while sitting and I guess I have to go the Flex-a-lite fan route. I added Water Wetter and the 300ZX radiator cap and it still wants to rise if it sits longer than 5 minutes. Driving around town is no problem though, I guess this is expected with only running the passenger side fan huh! :D
Bowlcut 01-23-2002, 09:37 AM Well I said i wouldnt spend too much time in down town traffic. But considering that the drivers side is more important IMHO since the water is the hottest right there as it just came out of the block. .... I think... pretty sure that is the blow side not the suck side, but ive been wrong before... You tried running with the a/c button on all the time to keep the fans on? Moving you should have no problem seeing how you have no ac condenser to stop the air. Calum's CRX used to run a bit hot till removed all that stuff then it ran supper cool...well we also took off the plastic nose of the crx...
