Maybe your EGR is sticking open?

I notice you've got DET pistons but no turbo yet? Is that correct?

yea that's right about the pistions.... how do i fix the EGR??? Or test it

Ok, you do realize that DET pistons drop the compression ratio of your engine from 9.5:1 to 8.something (8.5? 8.7?):1.

You do realize what dropping the compression ratio does to horsepower, right?

yeah, i was about to say something about that, the SR20DET pistons are 8.5:1...but would that cause the car to die out at 3k rpm?

I don't exactly know the equation, but I imagine this engine is perhaps as much a 15 hp lower due to those pistons. Maybe more?

Why exactly did you install those without the turbo???

8:3:1 and i put turbo pistons in my car because it's a turbo project and will be turbo real soon,,,, and it's not the pistons because i've had them in for awhile now and this just started happening and i have already figured out that the problem is in the fuel system so now all i have to do is track it down one day

Well I would check timing. I did a tune up one day and installed a new rotor button and dist. cap. I took her out for a ride and she ran awesome.
On the way home I noticed she would creep above 3k.
I poped the dist. cap and found that my rotor button was moving. I didn't tighten the screw down enough on my rotor button. tighten her down and away I went.

Just a thought.

BTW. I was thinking and with the lower compression pistons you should still feel the peak hp. and tq. at the same places that a normal 9.5 engine would. It would just be alot less of a ummf @ 6,000rpms.

I just got a new clutch installed and I had my mechanic with me for my first test drive after it was finished. We had the battery disconnected for about 9 hours while we were working on the car and I knew that the ECU program would reset.

When we started the test drive, I noticed a considerable amount of power loss. I was really frustrated at first and complained w/ concern to the guy that helped me.

He explained it to me this way. When a manufacturer builds a car for performance (ie, Toyota MR-2), they start with the hottest program possible and, as the car learns it's driver, it will de-tune itself for efficiency. On the other hand, when a car is built as a daily driver (ie, Sentra SER), the manufacturer will start with a very conservative program that will "learn" about it's driver and increase its output over time.

Needless to say, he was right. Gradually over the next 200-300 miles, the car returned itself to the performance that I was used to.

I hope that helps... But if I'm wrong, don't make fun of me... Make fun of Blair J :p
