Ok, here's an update on the blown 20ve motor

Took the motor out of the car and took the head off. My mechanic says the piston rings are shot but the rest of the motor looks good.

I was going to sell the head and get a new motor but now I'm thinking it might just be better to change the rings (my motor has about 30k on it).

My mechanic friend said he would charge me $200 to change the rings.

How much should it run me in parts rings, gaskets and anything else I need???
Anyone know of a good source?? I was going to try courtesy nissan.

Or would do you think its would be better to just part this motor out and get a new one which will be like $1500. I can probably get $750 for the head but who knows about the bottom end.

Any thoughts would be appreciated....

Sounds like a no brainer to me. Have him put new rings, bearings, and seals in and call it a day. GregV, Justin in AZ, and Craig Damashi all have good deals for Nissan oem parts.

GregV from Mossy has a banner that nuns at the top of this site. GregV will no doubt have better prices and availability than Courtesy. I vote repairing and running the curent motor. What happened anyway to cause your piston rings to fail?

yeah fixed that... problem with replacing rings, etcc... is no one seems to carry these.. they would take a couple months to get here, and I need to get car up an running. so looks like I'm just going to sell the head and get new motor. turbo Idea sounds fun but again I want something reliable and no more headaches-- had enough of those...

the rings from the sr20ve are specific to that piston. you could get a set of de pistons for next to nothing , up the comp. a bit and have a much easier time finding the rings unless greg v has them in stock.

Well if you decide to part it out I need one of the hard coolant lines from the back of the engine.

If Forsome Reason You Do Part It Out I May Be Interested In The bare Block

be prepare for the waiting time for spare part if you want to rebuild
if the part is ready available i suggest rebuild
otherwise get a new engine

Well got a new motor (I had already done a deposit with all Japanese)-- looks clean-- little bit of surface rust on cam lobes but otherwise engine looked really good. Went in today. Going to finish on Sunday.

head is sold to Chris Alllen at Mossy (just waiting for his check to clear).

block parts available

sr20ve pistons, rods, crank
block
timing chain.

The coolant line in my cardomain pics?? I think that one I have to sell with the head, but I can ask if he doesn't need it.

$50 for the chain (it's in really good shape btw).
