There is a slight chance I'll be there to spectate on Saturday. If I do I'll try to get some pictures of you guys again (hopefully none of erics car billowing smoke down the front straight). Sunday is a definate no go, I'll be at Verona for the VA commonwealth games autocross.

Not to worry, Stephen. Matt is still installing the replacement engine in the NX as I type, and we're leaving for New Hampshire within a few hours. Who knows WHAT will happen there... <grin>

It'll be good to see all you guys again. We're staying in Winchester, so let me know where the partying is going to happen...

we are staying at the track in Eric's big blue trailer so that is where the beer will be ;-) (and the x-box), they are assigning us parking so we should all be set up together.......see you next friday night sometime (unless you guys are at the hotel before we get there ...

is the replacement engine stock, or is worked on a little ?

It's "the" engine. Let's see if this one lasts longer than the last "the" engine...

We'll look for you there!

damn, if its "the" engine, then i really am in trouble, i figured at least w/ the cam advantage I'd have an edge on the straight;-)

I'll be there instructing. Likely won't be driving an SE-R, though (unless I get the Suburban sold (http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/car/83186146.html) and pick up a new SE-R in the next few days :) ) and I'm not sure if I'll even be driving the Firebird since the intake manifold & TPI stuff are currently off the car trying to track down a coolant leak. But I wouldn't miss d4iF7!n@ and a r0!!0>3r contest for all the Guinness in Ireland!

Joe may be smarter than we know he is...

It looks like we'll be a no-show for Hyperfest. We ran NHIS today very strong, but it looks like we may have popped a head gasket. Unless the Good Lord gives us an epiphany over the next 48 hours we'll be a withdrawel... - GA

wow, that sucks.....no chance you have another motor to plug in :-)?

maybe we can convince you to come down to one of the summit events later this year when you get the car back together...

so how'd you do at NHIS?

Nope, no other engine (well, there's the one with the hole in the #4 piston, but intuition tells me that's really a good solution.) I've also been unsuccessful in finding anyone (dealer or otherwise) that has a head gasket in stock or that can get one to me overnight. If anyone knows of one laying around...

NHIS was, again, enlightening. with minimal effort (I was breaking in the engine) we qualified 5th, only 1.5s behind the pole Acura. At the start I made up at least two of those spots then the car soon started overheating. When I parked it 12 laps later there was no coolant in the car (none, nada, zero, zip) but it stills runs and has good compression.

It's still a very slight possibility, but without a head gasket we're definitely a scratch. - GA

Greg, I *might* have one ( or 2!). I'll look when I get home.

greg, i might have one at home (in fact, i am 90% sure i do) , if i don't there's a shop in town that usually can get one in a day...any chance you want me to dig one up (if i don't have one ) and bring it to the track for matt to install there?

or overnight it to you tomorrow if i do have it at home?

So how was it?

it was great, hot as hell but great, turnout was different from what I orginally hoped, since greg amy couldn';t make it, however, we did have john ? (sorry i forgot his name (tired ;-) who ran his ITS 240sx in SER cup so we had a turnout of 3, the 240 was a 1/2 second to a second off the pace generally throughout that weekend (long front straight at summit point favors our motors) eric rosen and I were the other contenders.....

we were mixed in with the Honda Challenge Cars for the weekend and did standing starts both days.... on sat Eric was right behind me after passing 3 or 4 cars on the standing start until turn 5 when a H1 car between us spun, he had to come to a complete stop to effectively that car which blocked about 80% of the track and that was it for the race, i was too far ahead at the point and I spend my racing trying to run down Todd Reid in his K20 civic and the USTC silver audi that showed up (that car was quick)..didn't have much success and finished w/ a lap time of 1:30.6 i think

I ended up 7th out of 48 cars that took the green flag w/ only the audi and 5 H1 cars in front of me (pretty respectable for the ol Se-R cup car...eric was 10th and the 240 19th overall (two in the top 10 and 3 in the top 20, now bad :biggthump )

on sunday, i gridded 10th and eric was 12th (right behind me), because of potential rain we did a rolling start, Eric got a great jump and was in front of my for the first lap, we came around to start finish and it was a red flag (just when i had the run on him too;-).....turnsout a miata had gone off in the woods (so far that EV drove by him and he had to stand on his roof to get their attention)....the red flag was a little harry, two h4 crxs behind us didn;t see it as soon and one locked them up to aovid eric and i actually floored my car and pulled around an h2 integra to for fear of being rear-ended!..

they pulled us back in and re-gridded, started the race all over since we nevert finished a lap.....second start, same result eric jumped it ;-) to get in beside me, we were side by side through two heading to 3 and I chicked out and tucked in behind him, i got him back on the front straight since his car seemed to be a little off on power this weekend, he got in a race up w/ an H3 prelude and a very fast h4 integra and i pulled away quickly as those 3 raced each other..car was running blazing fast an I tracked down the USTC audi who appeared to slow for overheating?????

I don;'t know the final result because i left before they were posted...

next race in two weeks at VIR north hopefully a couple more cars will make it...

big :biggthump :biggthump :biggthump to the 1st 240sx to compete in SER cup, hopefully at a tighter track our cars will be a little closer together

ps. intersting to note the addition of the s4/s5 cam combo has made my excatly 2 seconds faster at summit then it was last year (unless i went faster in sunday's race (ie awaiting results)
