: Black Paint Oxidation
ATLANTICBLUE 01-24-2002, 01:37 PM I came across a 95 SE-R today for sale, condition is overall good, owned by a lady. Well maintained, but the paint is not the greatest. There is still a shine, but there is oxidation, Not too bad, i mean i can still see my reflection in it, but enough that would piss me off. Anyways what are your experiences in bringing SE-R paint back to life, with the use of miracle products?
eric96ser 01-24-2002, 02:05 PM I use Meguiers products, and I have had good luck with them. If you buy it, use a clay bar, then do the Meguiers 3 step process. That should make it look a lot better, if its not too late.
Black200sxSER 01-24-2002, 02:23 PM Clay Bar! Clay bar! Clay bar!...followed by Meguires scratch X and then Meguires Gold class..brought my black paint back to life...you will definitely want a buffer or you will kill yourself! :D I have heard that Zainos bros. is real good too..as well as Meguires #26 yellow, and 3M handglaze...but I havent tried those yet.
2wdBlazer 01-24-2002, 02:25 PM All Super Black SE-R's have this problem. You have buff that bitch like once a month. Stay away from black! The dealer told me that Nissan did not put a clear coat on the Black cars. That sux. I'm painting mine a different color in a few monthes.
ATLANTICBLUE 01-24-2002, 05:24 PM its like this white haze over it mainly on the hood and decklid, Probably from carwashes, my question is why would a woman buy a black car if she hasnt a clue on how to take care of it?
Black200sxSER 01-24-2002, 05:36 PM *** it's PURDY!
hey atlantic blue, i think i know the 200 u talking about, ijus checked trader.
first off, where were all these 200's when i was lookin for one?
and if u do buy that car, would u consider selling those steel rims to me?
how many km's is on it anyways? sounds like an alright price but pending km's
DaGenesis 01-24-2002, 11:45 PM my black paint sucks balls
i got chips everywhere! it looks like its one coat of black and no clear coat!
I Think We Need a recall
but id rather spend $2000 (which i Dont have) on performance shit than paint
Chrissy 01-25-2002, 12:09 AM I have so little paint left on my car I think if I took a buffer to it I wouldn't have any left! My question is why does my pain on my black 96 look so bad when the paint on my boyfriends burgundy 1990 300ZX still looks half decent? Nissan use shitty black?
And I used a 4 steps from mothers and it still looks like crap. My paint keep eating the wax or something. It's like 2 weeks later there is no wax left.
ATLANTICBLUE 01-25-2002, 05:03 AM Hey NX2K. yep 200SERs are damn rare around here, thats why im considering going for this one, the car has 119Km, I figure the cars got half its life left, should go another 6yrs 120 I beleive. If i were to buy the car, Sorry I would be keeping the steel rims if i bought the car, theyre kind of something I wanted anyways.
To the rest of you guys heres the link to the Picture of the car http://photoserver1.trader.ca/autotrader/photos/large/2002/01-25/tmi/01-25-02tmi81-18.jpeg
in the pic the car is freshly washed, and if u notice, the reflection on the hood is a bit hazy, (U can see the reflection of that housetop and trees, but its just not as sharp as it could be.) Does this look like it can be reversed??? I am something of a perfectionist, I can live with swirls but if the paint doesnt somewhat glow i will be dissapointed in the car forever, Keep in mind I am anal when it comes to detailing and the car will probably be waxed/ polished 3-4 Times a year. Thanks for your Input guys.
Benito Malito 01-25-2002, 11:30 AM well if you are anal about maintanence(?) then you'll be filling your time agonizing about the whip's paint if you buy it.
I've done clay bar, and all 4 steps by meguiar's. It looks good for like two weeks, but the paint on SER's is just cheap. I got touch up paint all over the place. Just keepin it in good shape until I can afford a paint job. After I've finished bolting onto it (ie never).
I'm rthinking vw's arthracite grey would be nice esp since the paint is such good quality.
ATLANTICBLUE 01-25-2002, 12:49 PM Anyone ever Diamond Cut their Paint??
ATLANTICBLUE 01-26-2002, 12:21 PM Nevermind guys i went to take a closer look and to drive the car, drove well, but the car was rougher then i thought and had obvious body repairs done to it. Man oh man I love driving these things though, its like i was born to drive them. I rev matched PERFECTLY on my first downgear attempt, I made the owner take grip on the door.
WhiteSER20 01-26-2002, 04:33 PM Hey to anyone who has this problem with the hazyness listen up!
I detail cars in the summer, and last summer a kid came to me with the same hazyness, it looked horrible, he said he had some kid glaze it and then he brought it through a car wash and it came out like this.
i have used meguiars for a while-tried most of meguiars products and i will say this: it is a good product but the thing is you will spend every week waxing and shining your car again because it doesnt last and fades very quickly.
my recomendation of products would be zymol. you can usually find it anywhere that sells meguiars products. Its in a clear bottle and the wax is blue. it lasts longer and shines better than meguiars ever did for me. UNLESS you wanna shell out $50 for Zaino which is the best ive ever used! ZYMOL costs like $12 and is tons better than meguairs.
Well now that we got our wax, to get rid of that hazyness all you have to do is apply cleaner wax 1st and buff it out. then apply your normal wax and buff it out. you will notice its alot better if not totally.
it may reaccur because you have black cars but after doing this it will at least look better and may be less severe.
Matt
Chrissy 01-27-2002, 12:28 AM Last thing I used on my car was Zymol. I bought it to try it, I know walmart has it. I thougt it was horrible. Didn't want to come off of my hood either.
