: Will I ever drive my 200 again???
VideoNasty 01-24-2002, 07:58 PM This is probably considered a rant...please excuse:
Last month I had the exhaust fixed.......cat clogged..busted my flex pipe......400 some odd dollars later..... i have a car that runs quietly
The nissan battery died a week later.... I splurged and bought an el cheapo battery, I know I shoulda gotten a better one...but oh well....
I drove the car a grand total of 3 times! (been beating my moms Saturn into the ground, as she cannot drive due to health problems, Im the lucky chauffer) and about a week ago it wouldn't start....... fast clicking when the key is turned....Starter I presume....i had it towed to the local Nissan dealer tonite...
and the real funny part.......the AAA guy told me to go buy a Honda!!!! scary thing is I almost agreed...my SE-R hasnt exactly been good to me lately.
and next on the list?!?! I'm waiting for the tyres to fall off...... my reliable SR20 is pretty sad when the externals all suck!!!!!
im never gonna get any of the suspension upgrades at this rate!!!
all my money is being sucked away by all this bullsh*t!!! not to mention I think I've forgotten how to drive manual!!! oh the agony!
MarkSR20 01-24-2002, 10:40 PM I am sorry to hear about your car! Once you get this stuff fixed I am sure everything will be all set. Your suspension needs may be met. If you are interested in GC coil overs you can get in on the group deal that is going on. This deal is not happening until a little less than a month from now. So let me know. Good luck with the car and I am sure everything will be fine once this stuff is fixed.
Se-Racer 01-24-2002, 11:56 PM Don't feel too bad i replaced the whole drivetrain, blew my engine, broke a spider gear in the tranny, broke an axle, and it's a 98, but it's all fixed now so i love driving it again till something else breaks:D
serboy83 01-25-2002, 12:04 PM i had it towed back to my house.....how much did you guys spend on your alternator...i was plaanning to do it my-self.....or should i just get it fixed from the dealer......

Se-Racer 01-25-2002, 12:06 PM go to the forsale forum i think there were some for sale on there
VideoNasty 01-25-2002, 07:57 PM okay my negative battery cable was cracked...... and i needed some drive belts replaced.....
so all's well that ends well.......
I would go in on that GC deal if I had things more planned out........I have to get Project German Look Super Beetle, and Project D16A rebuild done before Project Race SE-R can commence
but still the GC coil overs are a good possibility
SmoothDaddyFig 01-29-2002, 01:57 PM "Go buy a Honda" LOL................
You dont know how many times I have told myself that. Damn SE-Rs!!!!!!
Water Pump froze
Flex pipe busted
Battery died
Alternator died $180 from dealer
Engine spun a bearing
AAHHHH!!!!!
But you gotta love it.
Geez. I guess I've had good luck!
I've only replaced CV boots and stuff like bushings.
Still on the original clutch even, with 200,000 kilometres. And yes, I do beat on it at the track :D
When all is said and done, I doubt the price of the car and repairs I've done combined could buy a used Honda that's any faster than my SE-R. I'm running mine until it breaks in half, or until Nissan puts the SE-R badge on something that's actually worth new car payments (like putting the Classic SE-R back into production - har).
My car had its "phase" around 95k-100k, but it has been the model of reliability since. Eventually, you replace so many parts that there's nothing left to break. ;)
SE-Rious B14 02-02-2002, 05:52 PM I believe I make a strong case to take the cake when it comes to SR20 mishaps...on my N/A motor I've had alternator problems, starter problem, battery, then something happened on nitrous where i don't have any compression in cylinder 1...well anyways, i go and purchase a BB DET...get it installed running good, but the place i take it to for the intercooler plumbing holds the car for a month!!! and doesn't even do the job..well i pick it up, have the plumbing done, 2 days later i'm a happy boost SE-R driver. A week, goes by, A WEEK!, since i've had my car and with my gay ass luck i spun a bearing due to low oil pressure. So now it's back in the shop to fix the block...i feel your pain man in being SE-Rless, and this DET crap has put me in heavy debt, so now it's just to wait and see.peace
WhiteSER20 02-03-2002, 02:44 AM ya i hear ya on that one,
been waitin about 4 weeks for my clutch at a shit store locally, paid an arm and a leg and the thing still isnt in, finally when its in i dont have time to pick it up, kinda a pain in the ass,
havent driven the se-r since DEC 18th! :(

Dswtflip4u 02-03-2002, 06:50 AM I think most of the problems listed on this post is maintenance problems that happens on most cars. I replaced , alternator, starter, axles, battery, clutch. All these things were done after 70k on the car. I think that's pretty decent. Again, some parts will wear out on you. I am just wondering, to those people having bad luck, how many miles do you have in your car?
Bryan
96 200sx 123k with a bad #2,#1 cylinder.100shot jwt and most of the bolt ons.
VideoNasty 02-03-2002, 08:15 AM I understand that most of this is maintainence....I went thru it all 2 years ago with my 89 Mazda B2200...replaced just about every external on that engine, and it runs better at 120,000 than it ever has(my father now beats it into the dirt everyday at demolition sites, it ran from Pittsburgh PA to Watkins Glen NY the other weekend stronger than his Caddy)
but its the whole not getting to drive your car for but a week then something else going bad! thats what really peeved me!
but since its last visit to Nissan of Lakeland, the 200 has been running great( I still havent gotten to drive her, my boyfreind drives her to work and Im stuck with the Integra 3.5 LS(cylinders, not liters) that burns more oil that can cover a caddillac escalade!
Se-Racer 02-03-2002, 01:36 PM When my engine blew the car had 83,000mi on it but it wasn't that the motor was shitty or anything i was just driving very hard.

LMAO!!! Girl!!! You are TRIPPIN over in LAMELAND!!!!!
The reason why I am SO PISSED sometimes is cause none of my past 5 other cars have had these dilemas.
Including an 85 Si with 180,000 and 2 Hyundais.
I feel like a have to BABY my SE-R to keep it running right.
Now everybody is cracking their damn transmissions. I cant wait to crack mine. I have no 5th gear!!!!! My 91 CRX survived 2 months with a quart low on oil cause I was so broke at the time.
I figured the synthetic oil I had in there would keep it nicely lubricated with 3 quarts. That never spun a bearing even doing 126mph for 10 miles down the highway. Sorry for the ranting. I love my Nissan, BUT DAMN BABY!!!!!!!! I gotta give HONDA props for being more maintanence worry-free.
I wish I would have had my Sentra from the begining of its birth!!!
The prior owner probly didnt give 2 sh*ts.
shadowboy 02-06-2002, 12:22 AM smoothdaddy: i have to agree.. mine is the oil-burning integra that videonasty speaks of
and get this
167k miles on the clock
41k of it driven by me :)
autocrossing in that time
burns 1 quart of oil per tank of gas (no lie.. about a qt every 300 mi)
a minor amount of detonation (flaked ceramic insulator on the plugs) (got too aggressive with the timing advance, but as long as the compression #s are good, its all good, i have retarded the timing a lil)
and 3 of the 4 cylinders are within factory compression spec:
1: 195
2: 190
3: 190
4: 170 (with more cranking to get it that high)
the problem is gasket/head related i think.. known issue with that engine
clues:
oil covering the front of the block by cyl 4
oil covering the plug on cyl #4 when i took the plug out
speckles of oil on the bottom of the radiator cap (honda D and B series engines are open deck, a head gasket problem would result in oil in the coolant)
aside from all that i get 35mpg on the highway, good performance (for the less-than-factory power)
and the torque curve is as smooth as can be expected (has a greater portion of its peak torque before 3000 rpm and after 6500 rpm than the SR20, smaller peak torque though, smaller engine too)
SmoothDaddyFig 02-06-2002, 01:15 PM THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!
and thats what I mean about Nissan/Honda engines.
I need to baby my SR20 and worry about my damn oil!!! If not then something will go wrong. All my other Hondas including your Teg have no problem with being low on oil and they can take the abuse!!!!! GRRRRRR!!!!!!!! I cant wait to pick up another CRX as a 3rd car!!!! NIce pics inyour sig, by the way!!!!!
shadowboy 02-06-2002, 03:33 PM the old ae86 i had was the same way
leaked oil like a sieve
was extremely reliable, moreso than my honda even
yea it was troublesome to start in cold weather, but thats what you get with a carbeurated engine
it took effort but it never failed to start and it always got me where i wanted to go.. it was also fun to drive
that car is part of the reason why i am now looking for an AE86 GT-S.. the only problem with my AE86 was it was slow as frickin hell (70HP 1.6L SOHC 8V Carb'd engine)
that and i totalled it :(
also, i remember checking the oil in the teg once or twice and not having any oil even on the dip stick :\ i try to avoid that though
ThomasSr20 02-06-2002, 11:07 PM Damn i already gone through the Factory Nissan battery, alternator, and wish me luck on the Starter.
God bless my tranny please please please.:p
