For the tar, go to PepBoys or maybe even AutoZone. Buy some rendition of a Clay bar, preferably Mother's. That will take off tar more easily, IMHO than anything else I've tried short of a brillo pad. And this won't rub away your paint :) Then, give it a nice hand glaze (if there are a lot of swirls), then polish it, then wax it. Your car will look amazing when you are done. With this method, people ask either my mom (1995 Golf GTI) or my brother (1991 Nissan 240SX) if their cars are new! :D I don't get that comment because I drive a boxy sentra :p

For those stuipd little tabs, try a hair dryer and a plastic razor, or try to slide some fishing line under there. The fishing line has worked for others on this board to take off the stock decals/emblems, so i imagine it would work on those tabs. Good luck! Enjoy the Ride!

looking good :D i found that good old wd-40 works well to get tar off with little rubing and simple green works too.

Tar and bug remover works well too.

Car looks good, time for goodies!

claybar - cheapest you can find
glaze - mothers or meguiars (both seem good )
polish - mothers
wax - zymol or mothers pure carnuba not cleaner wax\

i use these with good result

clay bar: mothers
glaze: 3M (they have a whole system of glaze, polish wax, scratch and swirl remover, protectant, yada yada, but it was the only glaze on PepBoys shelf at the time)
Polish: mothers, meguiars, etc...
Wax: Zymol is my favorite, makes the car real smooth. Takes a lot of elbow grease because for best results, after you apply and rub off...you spritz it with water and BUFF. By hand, not machine. If i use my buffer for that last step, its just not the same. Another wax I like is Gliptone, hard to find, but it does a good job.

i had some really nasty road tar on my car about a yr ago, and NOTHING would get it off. so my friend said use gasonline! hey it worked but right after you do it i reccommend some of that mcguires polish stuff!

As for the tar crap, just hit up your local auto store and get Tar remover. You would be surprised how good that stuff works!

HOLY COW, Im Dead Beat!! i just spent 9-10 hours cleaning the outside of my car. from 10 in the mornign to about 8 at night. i washed, clay bared, polished, and waxed the whole car. its like a mirror. it was worth it. we got the damn bumper sticker off and those god awful headlight mountin things!! my cars happy!! im trying to convince my dad to let me adjust the throttle cable. he doesnt want me to mess with the timing. i dunno if i really need to now either. but my cars so awsome now. oh, one of the people i know's older brother is going honda crazy. he was going to look at some del sols over the weekend. they think thier hot shit. he was talking to me saying yeah man thier awsome, 180 hp stock. i interrupt him and go " whoawhoa, 180? no, the vtecs only put out about 160, and the rest about 120 or less. i know because i used to maby consider one about a year ago. pluse you have to rev them to 9thousand to get all the power, and it takes forever to get there" lol. im a an asshole or what, i love myself, but i love my egg more! later guys
