: problems with grddy mss
dansr20 07-06-2005, 04:53 PM OK i have searched andhavent seen anyone with the problem im having. My intake wire, or wire one, is sending constant power instead of grounding out. and then my wire 2 isnt doing anything. When i set my rpm setting's and i rev up only number one will light up and start blinking number 2 wount ever change just stays off. Does anyone have a clue of what my problem could be?
billc 07-07-2005, 06:54 AM It's probably either your wiring or the programming of the MSS. So let's start with the wiring. Can you list the colors of the MSS wires and how you have them connected to the wires in your car?
For programming, check Rockwood's classic instructions at

or for more detail, see instructions at

-- particularly Post #20.
It's just a matter of methodically working through this to get it wired and set up right.
Good luck -- you'll get it figured out.

dansr20 07-07-2005, 01:03 PM Ive got the black wire grounded, the red drwaing power from cd player, orange also drawing power from cd player, brown wire getting rpm feed from ECU. green and yellowe wires are going to my solenoid, everything else was left alone. Is the TPS necesary? my yellowe one is also giving constant power.
dansr20 07-07-2005, 01:06 PM I also have everything set up like it says in the posts, i have noticed my number one does light up at certain rpm's but thats the one that sends constant power, number 2 never lights up.
billc 07-07-2005, 05:57 PM Your wiring setup sounds OK. You do not need the TPS to be hooked up. In fact, you can unplug those wires from the back of the switch, at least for now.
Are you also running 12V positive to one wire on each solenoid and the other wire from each solenoid goes to the green or yellow MSS wire?
Can you read the RPMs on the MSS display (remember 250 displayed means 2500 RPM)?

dansr20 07-08-2005, 12:08 AM When i was trying it out, i ran pawer straight from the batery to my solenoid, one problem is that my yellowe wire is sending constant power, when it should be grounding out. Then my green wire, wount send anything because when i give it constant power nothing ever changes so its not grounding it. Also when i hit my selected rpm's only my number one come's on, number 2 stays off.
billc 07-08-2005, 07:27 AM You say that when you were trying it out you ran power straight from the battery to the solenoid. Are you still drawing 12V + from the battery to each solenoid? If not, you should be. You should be using fuses on these lines to protect you MSS, but putting in fuses now won't solve this problem alone -- only prevent possible future problems.
Can you explain what you mean when you say "Yellow wire is sending constant power?" What observation did you make ot reach this conclusion?
Also, please confirm whether you can read your RPMs on you MSS display.
I'm trying to work through this logically in my head -- that's why I'm asking these questions, even though it may seem to you that I'm ignoring your descriptions.
I look forward to hearing your responses.

dansr20 07-10-2005, 02:44 PM I can read the RPM's on the mss, and i used a circuit tester to determine that it was sending constant power. If i draw power from the batery, nothing will happen because ill be getting power from both wires, now if i ground my solenoids and i hook up the yellowe wire they will be on at idle, even if i set the rpm engagement for higher. also no matter what i do. but no matter what my green wire never does anything, if i give that solenoid constant power or ground the green wire wount change anything, but i have verified that both solenoids do work.
billc 07-11-2005, 06:38 AM Thanks for the additional information. I don't know of any circumstances in which the MSS would be sending 12V positive through the yellow wire. I've never heard of anyone programming the MSS to do that (but maybe it's possible to do it by mistake). I do, however, know for sure that the MSS always grounds out the solenoids when it's work properly for this application -- it does not send 12V+.
Can anyone help out here? I'm trying to think of another explanation besides the MSS is cooked.
dansr20 07-11-2005, 02:00 PM Yeah this has become very agravating, if anyone else has a clue of what may be causing this please try helping out.
