: My exhaust leaks, what can I do.

My stone racing header has started to leak now. The flex pipe (flex joint, nuckle, whatever) has is leaking around the seal. I need to replace it, but the shop wants $90 for it. A new header (from stone racing, or ssautochrome) is only $150 shipped, so I don't see the justification for the price. Besides it is a muffler shop, and that is just how it goes.

Maybe I should just see if I can get a new downpipe from them.

What are my options for stopping this leak? Is there any sort of cold weld that would work?

What about running without the flex? Would that crack the pipe? I know it has plenty of flex from the rubber exhaust hangers.

I don't know what the best solution is, but maybe you guys do.

Thanks

Jay

You definetely need the flex section of the exhaust, unless you're running a race exhaust which doesn't even need to go to the cat. JB Weld is the only cold welding compound I can recommend for your application, but then again I'm not entirely sure that it will seal the exhaust for long with such a high temperature. I think your best bet would be to NOT take it to an exhaust shop, as they will most likely try to rip you off, so either buy a whole new set-up, or just the flex section from SSAuto or Stone, which ever you prefer. That's my .02

A flex pipe is exspensive as shit. Mine had like a hole in it. I got my local muffler shop to replace it... 90 bucks.

Why do you say to not take it to the muffler shop?

JB Weld will not hold up to that heat. They make some exhaust sealer that you can get at autozone and places like that. It is for cracks, gaskets etc. It can handle alot higher temps than JB weld. Just go take a look at what autozone has to offer.

Sell your header for like $80.00 and buy a new one for like $70.00 more. I am sure someone here will get a flexpipe welded in for cheap and love the header. Make the header work for you.

try j.b. weld, or some muffler repair shit, i don't know how good it will work though, but if the headers are only 150 dollars dont' expect hotshot qualitly.. you get what you pay for.... good luck.

Hotshot quality? Hahaha. Those bastards crack too much. Sorry, hotshot fans. Just get a cheap ssautochrome, obx, topspeed, etc. They will work fine.

Hey, it's like alloy wheels... you throw your sh!t at it repeatedly and expect it to break, when, never? It's a matter-of-time sorta thing.

One day, it will come. Like PW said, sell it to someone who can weld for like $75-80 and buy yaself a new one. Like a ProTech log, and drop a t28 in that shizzle :).
