: messing with 0 gauge wire
liupj 07-17-2005, 05:48 AM Finally getting around to messing and relocating the battery.
I have 0 gauge wire (toolapcfan!) and his crimp on gold connectors.
No store in my area sells wire this @)#($*@) thick. Or any tools for it.
HOW THE HELL DO I CRIMP ON THE CONNECTOR?!
Not to mention, the wire is SO thick even soldering the ends from fraying is hard.
AAH! Help.

Get a hammer crimper:
http://www.mcmaster.com/catalog/111/gfx/large/7061kp2l.gif
from Mcmaster page 791. $28.91. Use it in a vise and it works great and is cheap.
Honest Bob 07-17-2005, 09:33 AM Or you could just use a vise. ;)
Trinixtc 07-17-2005, 02:17 PM or just use a hammer.....
Serban 07-18-2005, 03:23 PM Hammer and phillips head screwdriver :D
The screwdriver is good advice. After the vice, use a flathead to place a lare score in yoru crimp. It will help to hold things in place better.
mirrortints 07-18-2005, 04:51 PM I just sat there and squeezed the hell out of a pair of plyers and after a couple of minutes and a sore hand, it was crimped!

You sir are a MAN!!!!
mirrortints 07-18-2005, 05:08 PM Hey, I had no hammer crimper and didn't even think of using a hammer and flathead. It took a couple of tries because just when I thought I had it, that damn wire just backed out! I think it was the cursing that helped me through it.

LOL.
Gonna crimp and hammer it to hell (well, get a screwdriver and a large metal object.. I dont have a hammer, amazingly.).
Afterthat, solder it all together to a clump of metal and crap. :biggthump
Sanyo 07-18-2005, 10:33 PM Pair of vice grips and a strong M-Fer usually is how i crimp wire on lower gauge wires:D
johnand 07-18-2005, 11:26 PM Hey, what is with all the replies for ghetto crimp techniques :D
mirrortints 07-19-2005, 08:56 AM If you REALLY want to be ghetto, don't even use a connector, just try to screw the wires into wherever you are trying to put it. Now THAT would be ghetto!
btw, DON'T DO THIS!!!
NX$paniard 07-19-2005, 12:07 PM really thick solder and a propane torch.....
WickedSR20 07-19-2005, 05:59 PM Or just use a crimpless ring.

I like using them much better than soldering 1/0 gauge wire.
NX$paniard 07-19-2005, 06:29 PM soldering is still far superior over time (if done properly) and waaay cheaper ;)

mmm cheap is tasty.
classicaddict 07-19-2005, 11:39 PM -get a solider on terminal, put it in a vice with the hallow end pointing up.
- get some thick ass solider and a torch.
- use the torch and put a good amount of solider in the terminal and insert the wire.
-pull torch away, let it cool down......there you go, soliderd terminal.
mirrortints 07-20-2005, 08:41 AM Or just use a crimpless ring.
