Ok I just bought a 96 200sx about 2 weeks ago. It might be that im not use to it but its pretty slow.It has a clutchmaster stage 1 clutch plus a aluminum flywheel, unorthodox pullies, hotshot cai, 2.5 exhaust,b&m short shifter. I just bought a hotshot 4th gen header. The thing is my bro has a 91 nx2000 with the jdm swap and a nismo stage 1 clutch and a pop charger filter. Why is ripping me so bad most of the time he will win by 8 to 10 car lengths. I know the header should help out some when I put it on case of the exhaust being so big. The main thing is do yall think its my driving are is low port and high port that big of a differnce?

I would start with a tune up. Everything from plugs, wires, timing to 17*, distributor cap, adjust TPS. Also you have to consider that he has a fresh motor that by factory has about 5-6whp more than you do and the car is just a bit lighter.

Well he will get a slight jump on you because the nx is slightly lighter in weight. I would deffinitly try and tune up and some of it might be your driving. Also you have to take into consideration you just got the car. I know it takes me awhile to get used to a car to get the most out of it. Also try looking into getting a g20 ecu. It will cut out your speed governer and also raise your shift redline another 1k

I know the power is thier and it is probaly my driving just like yall said I still need to get use to it.But I'm having a problem between 4500 rpm and 5000 of the car trying to stal down like i'm losing a bit of power. Which i'm thinking it could be back pressure bulding up from not having a header and having 2.5 inch exhaust and cai. What do yall think do you think the header would take that stal away are could thier be something wrong with the engine are a sensor. LMK thanks for all the info I just put some ngk spark plugs in but didnt replace anything else. I rather spend a little bit of cash at a time instead of a lot and listing to my wife bi#ch.

what is the speed govenor do? Might be a stupid question but most gov I have had will slow you down when you hit like 100mph. is that the same way it works with 200sx case I have had mine to 110mph with out anything happening.

Like someone said, set your timing to 17*. I think a 2.5" exhaust is too big for NA. Just my opinion.

I think its to big to it was already on the car when I bought it.

the speed governer will kick in at 114 on our cars.

I would do the timing too but make sure if you do that to always run 93 octane gas.

You will want 94 or newer. Our cars are obd 2. the g20's 94 and up are obd 2.

so he has a JDM spec SR20DE? its probably doesnt have to much more power than the US, but a tune-up is deffinatley a good idea. the hotshots header should help offset the large exhaust, giving you the power that your loosing at higher rpm's. do you have the hotshots down-pipe too?

idk how much money you plan on spending on this car to make it fast, but your next step should be cams & ecu. if you got $1k go with JWT; if your strapped for cash, go with high-port intake cam and G20 ecu ($100-200). then upgrade your suspension to keep your car stiff. even new performance tires (yokohoma, falken, nitto, etc), would help your 0-60 & 1/4 mile.

The hotshot header is coming with the downpipe. The highport cams will be the way I would go wife would not be happy about me spending 1000 on my car case I have 2 kids that are alot more important. The good thing is my brother has a highport engine thats blown he said I can have what I wont off it. So that just leaves the ecu. The suspension is already done to I have H&R springs kybgen2 struts 17 inch wheels with some 205/40r17 tires cheap tires. Pluse front and rear stabilizer bars. How much more hp will that give me with the high port cams?

The 91 intake cam will give you around 5-6whp. Which is the power loss between the lowport vs the highport. I recall Miko making a post of dyno numbers from a lowport motor and highport motor and there is about a 5whp difference between the both. I assume they did it this way because they wanted to make the new SE-R's more emission friendly.

Matt if you search we do have a post about "FREE MODS" for our cars. I would check them out.

Now the car needs a new engine. Let my brother drive it wed to go get some food so he could see how it drove with the hotshot header and he was not use to the short shifter. He red line at 3rd went to go in to 4th but hit 2nd instead. We will be putting a jdm in about a week are two. dam this sucks but my bro gave me his nx2000 intell the car gets going again pluse he is paying for it all. god I love my bro!

If it just threw the rockers off, they can be put back on without buying a whole new motor.

It is nice to be geting a new jdm engine but I hate how it made my bro feel. I realy didnt care it just a car and I had the money to fix it.
