I've tried to set my timing at 20-21 degrees, but it seems to always reset back to around 13 degrees once i turn off the car. do i have to reset the ecu? I am running de injectors, de ecu, de maf.

also another wierd problem..
everytime i start my car, it wont hold idle; i have to step on the gas and hold it for a few seconds for it to hold. and when i start it cold, it idles at around 700, then warms up to normal to about 900-1000rpm instead of it idling high, then dropping down to normal from cold start. random

1.6->2.0L question...
i swapped out my 1.6L temp sensor (red one) and replaced it with the se-r one, and it doesnt work. should i buy a new sensor?

thanks

*edit, 700 rpm. my bad

If your car is idling at 7k rpm, you got some serious problems going on :rofl:

my car does the same thing.. it doesnt want to idle when its cold(it searches for idle) for like 10secs and it goes away.. i was told that i need the upgraded ecu wich ill put on this week.. u are probably having the same problem.

First, are you positive that you are in timing mode when you are adjusting the timing? Also, when you say it is going back to 13*, is that based upon the timing light and marks; or are you using a Techtom, etc that shows the ecu timing? If is it ecu timing then it is common for it to be at ~15*.

The idle could be related to the cold idle adjustment right below the throttle body. I believe there is a thread in this section that discusses how to adjust it with pictures. Mine wanted to idle really high originally also, but the adjustment really helped.

LOL! - that would be an attention getter.

if this is how to get into timing mode...
warm up car; turn off
unplug tps
turn on, let idle
rev 4k, idle; repeat x2
timing mode

and yea, it looks like about 13* on the tick marks, and yes, im using a timing gun
