Am I crazy?! I was having trouble shifting into 2nd so I went ahead and drained my tranny fluid. When I did so, I noticed 2 ball bearing fell out with the oil drain plug. I'm assuming that this has something to do with my 2nd gear problem. However, not being familiar with the internals of a tranny, I don't know what it indicates. Any ideas aside from "Time for a new tranny."?

pretty much time for a new one, its not directly related to the 2nd gear thing because those bearings are usually only at the ends of the gear stacks, in the case.

That would offically be bad.

certianly. IIRC they center the gearstacks at the end of the gearbox.

Well Crap! The tranny functions just fine, shifts well through all gears except for a little grind going into 2nd. Too weird. I'd think that if it were going out to the extent that ball bearings were falling out then it would be much more symptomatic however, I suppose plenty of symptoms are just around the corner. Thanks for the input.

I just realized that Shadelock had been on my computer and that I was posting on his account. No, I have not heard any noise other then the slight grind going into 2nd. I can even get that to go away if I shift at low speed. I'm telling you this tranny shifts flawlessly through all other gears!? Too weird.

What tranny is it? B13, B14, B15, P10, P11?

Very bad, unless someone with a BB gun has been using your open fill hole on the tranny for target practice (unlikely).

Put them back in and put the drain plug in. lol. You would be waisting your time finding out where they go as the damage has probably taken place. Find another trans. Sorry

Yeah, I would like to see how big they are? are they a little smaller than a marble? or a different size?

I will post pics up tomorrow. On a side note, anyone know what the teardrop shaped plug is on the bottomside of the tranny just a few inches towards the passenger side from the oil drain plug?
