i saw one of those legend5 interior kits (brushed aluminum) on a 200sx. looked really cheesy. i wish i could paint mine perma glossy black...that way i don't have to use meguiars on the interior! ;)

As an old-sports-car enthusiast, let me add:

Way back when, a lot of sports cars had painted metal dashes, colored to match or compliment the exterior paint; see old Mercedes 190SL's, Alfa Guiliettas, even Karmann Ghias. Against this backdrop, chrome gauges, switches, etc., really stood out. A search of the web will supply you with countless photos. Find a way to do this, as opposed to the usual "Rice Approach", and you might really have something -- instead of a copycat interior. As always, YMMV.

i just recentaly painted my interior on my 96 200sx se-r the way i did it was i went out and bought import color primer, matching nissan silver, and clear coat. Then i took the pieces out to be painted and sanded them with 400 and then washed them and let them dry. Then i primed them and let them sit, then sanded them with 600 and washed them again. Then i painted them and and coated it a few times then let it sit a night then i clear coated it the next day. Compared to all my friends who have done it mine has come out the best b/c i didn't rush it and i sanded primed sanded painted and clear coated. I just finished it like last week i will have pics in a few days

That's the best way to do it really. Preparation is everything in painting. Well good technique is critical too.

I've only painted a few pieces in my interior to match the exterior color because its just too damn black in our cars. I did the shifter bezel, the screw cover on the back side of the console and the hazard button/screw cover/defroster area and it turned out very well. I wouldn't go too much beyond that other than the vents which I didn't paint because it looked like too much hassel to get them out. When you get into doing the dash and stuff like that, don't cause a hazard by putting a gloss finish on the dash. That would make a nasty blinding reflection.

Don't expect the paint to last forever, though. It will be suseptible to chipping and wrinkling depending on your climate. Oh, and use filling primer to get rid of the texturing. Paint on textured plastic looks really cheesy.

there is a guy running around the DFW area with a 240 he has a full fibreglass dash painted the color of his car. it looks awsome.
