Just picked up my 93 SE-R on Saturday. God i love this car :D

I'm looking for some suggestions on suspensions? what works? i'd like coil overs, for the adjustability (obviously), but I'd like to hear your opinions.

I have a deep, deep hatred for the rims. They've gotta go. So with your suspension sugestions, let me know what size wheel/tire i can go w/, and what you'd suggest as well.

thanks in advance ...

Ground control coilovers. 1 inch drop, no more. You'll be riding around on the bumpstops otherwise.

Rims: please don't get 17" bling blings. They will be heavy, you will destroy the gearing, and your car will be slow, I promise. There are many 15" rims that look fantastic on a Classic. Kosei K1s, Volk TE37s, Pannasport, Borbet, even B14 SE-R wheels look great. Tires choices are plentiful, good and cheap in 15" size.

Example: For $1000, you can right this minute order some 15X7 Kosei K1s with Bridgestone 195/50/15 Potenza SO-3 Pole Positions mounted, balanced and shipped to your door ready to go.

And the good thing: most decent 15X7 rims are LIGHTER than the stock 14X5.5 rims.

Edit: click on link in signature for a picture of a Classic lowered 1 inch with 15" rims.

I was actually looking at 16's with a 40-45 series. Thats what it plus-sized to. But i have a feeling with a 1" drop, it might cause problems. 15" just seems a little small for me.

But ground controls it is then, any suggestions on where to buy from?

As soon as I can get my suspension/brakes figured out I can start looking into the swap! i'm psyched :D

15x6 or 15x7 rims with 195 or 205/50/15 tires is all the wheel/tire you will ever need under a Classic. Trust me.

Are you out for looks or performance?

Both - this will be a street/strip car. It will *never* be auto crossed or road raced.

My target is about 250 wheel horsepower. That should hardly be a problem with the swap (SR20DET). Other than the obvious added rotational weight, what drawbacks are there to 16" rims? Am I going to get any "scrubbing" w/ a 1" ground control drop and 16" rims with 40 series tires?

jon3k - your in about the same boat as me, (I'm not out for 250hp though). Go with the 15's. I've seen some nice 15's out there plus they weigh less.

less weight + looks good = equals performance and looks.

[edit]
by the way, 40 45 series tires suck for the dragstrip, trust me (see sig)

I'll agree that 40/45 series tires suck at the dragstrip. I once ran a set of 205/45/15 Nitto drag radials at the track, thinking the smaller diameter would help.

All it helped was to loosen my teeth.

I've been very happy with the 12 lbs. apiece Rota wheels that I (and other Forum members) have put on our Classics in 15x6.5 size. The lighter weight makes a nice difference (especially for drag racing, but even more so for autocrossing), and the wheels look great.

$425-450 for a set of four, shipped, is tough to beat. Lightweight, strong, look good, and you can fit whatever diameter drag radial/slick you need (tall for turbo, short for NA or nitrous) and be done with it.

If anyone has a set of pics for the Gunmetal Rotas I would love to see it.

jon3k,

Have you given any thought to upgrading your sway bars? I saw your post but did not see if you wanted to upgrade your sway bars. I am thinking of upgrading my stock sway bars but wanted other peoples opinions. So rather than start another thread, I figured this sway bars question would fall under your question/thread.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I don't think my car looks cheap. You be the judge:
http://www.sr20de.org/images/gallery.php?op=view&cat=Sentra%20SE-R%20%28Classics%29&img=gpser1.jpg

Paint them whatever color you like, if you're concerned about how they look. They're light, they're strong, and they work well. That's why I bought them. Black was the last reason I bought them. Any wheel can be black, if you want it to be...

Thats not a bad price at all, and your wheels look great. I'm really looking for white rims, but if I found something in black, or gunmetal that really caught my eye, I'd be interested.

In fact, i just looked at the site, and the rota grids look awesome, and I can even get them in white. Where did you guys buy your rota rims from?

Once I lower the car, I'll consider strut and sway bars. No need to worry about it at its current height :D

thanks guys,

IMO, all you really need to upgrade is the rear sway bar.

How do you know your car handles like a champ? Do you have anything to compare it to? Have you autocrossed it against some good drivers or taken it on a road course?

I once had Eibach Pro-Kits and Tokico blues, and that setup sucked ass. I have five years of autocross results to compare to.

Can you run 205/50-15 tires on 15x7 rims? I've got my eyes on the ASA EM9 rims from tirerack.com and they recommend 195/50-15 tires for the 15x7 and 205/40-16 for the 16x7.

I'd like to widen my contact patch by at least 20mm (or 1") over stock.

Cheers!

Michael.

Like i said..dont take the post to your heart!!!I was stating my opinion. And i have not and will never autox my car. I have strictly built my car for street driving and car shows. And if i can remeber correctly, MaddMatt aid that if you get 17" bling blings that you will ruin your gearing!!!How the heck are yo ***** ruin gearing??? I've had 16's on my car for a 1yr and a .5 and i've known frinds that have had 17's on longer then *** and have NEVER had a problem. But anyway..Sorry for having a little sense of humor on the board!!!

By ruin your gearing, he didn't mean that it would physically damage your transmission, he meant that the bigger wheels would slow you down by making you shift at different points that would be disadvantageous. Bascially, wheels that are too big are bad for acceleration.

:D Just kiddin.........

By the way, anyone have any probs with a 15x7 rim. That was the size rim I was planning on getting with a set of 205/55-15's. (Remember, stock on a standard G20 is 195/65-15.)

It shouldn't be a problem.
