: How much boost???
ITR_KILLR 02-06-2002, 11:08 PM I just put a BB DET in my 95 SER. i've got te J.W.T. computer
SR20Develop. downpipe, greddy type S, and the stock T-25
ported. and a apex AVC-R.
How much boost can i run on the stock turbo and internals if i upgrade the fuel and ignition?????
spdracerUT 02-07-2002, 12:22 AM 10psi is pretty safe, 12 psi is pushing it. Once you push past 12, you're going to top out the MAF which will cause the car to run lean and probably push the limits of the fuel pump. I wouldn't worry about the internals until you start pushing 350+ whp. Probably don't have to worry about the ignition until you're over 300 either.

ITR_KILLR 02-09-2002, 07:57 PM If i use a 300ZX TT fuel pump, and a cobra MAF could i run 12PSI pretty safely?? how can i tell how much boost is too much???
ClassicSE-R 02-10-2002, 01:21 AM What kind of intercooler do you have? What kind of exhaust?
Without a front mount intercooler and at *least* a 2.5" cat back exhaust, I wouldn't run much more than stock boost.
Rob
ITR_KILLR 02-10-2002, 01:50 AM right now, i have 2 1/4 in exhaust on the DE i'm about
to pull out, but i'm going to upgrade to 3in. i have the
stock top-mount intercooler on the BB. Nobody in my
area can do mandrel bends, so i guess i'm stuck
having to buy a hotshot intercooler kit. does anyone know
of other intercooler kits for the BB that dont require
any additional pipes custom bent?? thanx for all the
help
Rockwood 02-10-2002, 05:37 AM how can i tell how much boost is too much???
umm, a loud BANG! would be the first hint...as would funny marbles dropping sounds.
i wouldn't risk more that 10 psi

lol!! And some cracked pistons would soon follow..;)
sr20detutah 02-11-2002, 05:59 PM I have a bb det with stock MAF, JWT ECU, stock BB injectors, 3" dia. exhaust, and front mount intercooler and I safely run up to 11.75 psi. This was the highest recommended by JWT. It won't run lean if you have this setup.
Rockwood 02-11-2002, 06:22 PM yes, but remember, he has this setup on a DE 9.5:1 motor, not the 8.5:1 BB DET. i would say he would be pushing it at 10 psi on a DE.

Yea, you're right with 9.5:1 compression 10 psi would be the safe limit. But he says he is running a BB Det???
sr20detutah 02-11-2002, 06:36 PM BTW ITR_KILLR the Apexi AVC-R is awesome! In my opinion it is the best boost controller available. Just remember that when you turn it on it will take about three runs at full throttle in third gear for the ECU to learn and function properly. While the ECU is learning you will feel huge flat spots in the RPM band. By the third or forth run the RPM band will be smooth and the car will run awesome. This will happen every time you turn it off for a while and then turn it back on.
Rockwood 02-11-2002, 07:11 PM oh, oops, i thought this was SR20loper's thread. mah bad.
ITR_KILLR 02-11-2002, 11:46 PM what HP range would I be in running 11.75 psi?
what front mount I/C should I get? Is Hotshot
the only bolt-on I/C kit i can get for the BB? Like i
said before, no one in my area can do mandrel bends
so is there anywhere i can order 3in exhaust, or
should i settle for shitty crush-bent?
thanks for everybodies help:cool:
Commander Lex 02-12-2002, 08:57 AM Dude if you want to come to Virginia Beach, VA there is one place called BBA that does great Mandrel bent piping for anyone that is that needs piping. PM me

Hey whats front mount is that??
sr20detutah 02-12-2002, 02:18 PM XS Engineering core 21" x 11" x 3" This core is very efficient and I love it. http://et.byu.edu/~rpt/pictures/NewFront3.jpg
Rockwood 02-12-2002, 04:19 PM Andreas Miko sells a very nice 3" mandrel bent with either an N1 or Dunk can, for $600 shipped. look in the for sale section.

doesnt the Greddy Type S BOV vent into the atmosphere? or is the the recirculate and vent type? when you run 10 to 12 psi, you will get some backpressure in the turbo and might result in detonation.
got a question as well :D, when JWT retunes your ECU for the fuel maps, do they tune it to a specific boost? like if you plan to run higher boost on some days, you wouldnt have to get an air/fuel controller would you?
what downpipe do you have as well?

As I understand it, someone correct me if I'm wrong, JWT programs the ECU for stock boost which is around 7 psi, then when you have a boost controller, like the AVC-R, the JWT ECU adjusts the fuel mapping to match the boost. This is how my DET is set up. Your boost controller runs "Piggyback" on the JWT ECU. There is no need for a air/fuel controller unless you want to do some aditional tuning, but it is not required.
PSSSHHHGOESMYSR20 02-13-2002, 10:27 AM On a Stock DE motor with 370cc injectors I was pushing 10 pounds daily on a t3t04E .50 A/R .60 A/R with no problems. But that was with an AFC not a JWT ECU. You have a t25 which is significantly smaller. So more boost shouldnt be a problem as long as the little guy can take it. Just IMHO
