: New times with open downpipe
SR20loper 02-07-2002, 01:37 AM Well ...Just got back from the wednesday night drags here in Phoenix...This run was my best and done with 16 pounds in the federal tires(ghetto)my previous time was 13.811@100.97 that was done with 10 pounds T25 with S4 cams ..and 2 1/4 exhaust this run is done with open downpipe....added like 2 mph to the trap speed...
2.143
5.878
8.876
82.530
13.671@103.182
not too bad but I had mad wheel hop on this run which sucks guess the suspension is going out only has 210k on it...lol
SR20loper 02-07-2002, 04:44 PM This Blows....I wake up and see a shiny puddle under my car....its tranny fluid so I'm assuming I cracked my tranny case. I just took my tranny out...Damn this blows
Rockwood 02-07-2002, 05:30 PM Chris at SR20Development (619)69-TURBO has insterts that can be welded into your case to prevent the case from cracking. i would highly recommend it.
also, you are running all this on a 9.5:1 motor right?
SR20loper 02-07-2002, 05:41 PM yup a 9:5 motor 10 pounds S4 cams and T25
SR20loper 02-07-2002, 05:50 PM I just called SR20 they told me I have to dissassible everything to weld it so it seems I'm probably going to end up JB welding the bitch. Hopefully I can do all this without removing the tranny from the car. WE will see....drain it and clean it the best I can I guess....is there anything better then JB weld?
Rockwood 02-07-2002, 05:50 PM cool, nice times man.
get some drag radials, drop them down to 15 psi. NO wheelhop, even with nasty stock suspension. i use NT555Rs, and busted out a 2.01 60' on just the motor at a track with very little VHT.
just get the 14" ones and some $30 each black outs, and youre set.
how is traction at 10 psi? do you spin through 1st and 2nd?
Rockwood 02-07-2002, 05:52 PM well, your case *may* be shot, i dont know, did it break right next to the shift linkage?
i would have it welded at a shop, even if you dont remove the tranny, i would recommend having it welded with real welds. shouldnt cost very much either.
they would probably have to put it on a lift.
SR20loper 02-07-2002, 05:58 PM I have a Welder....just wondering though Can i weld without melting the seals....will I hurt the gears anything? Thanks
AntonioG 02-07-2002, 05:58 PM Sweet time man! Too bad about your tranny...maybe it's time to invest in slicks after you get your tranny fixed. With slicks you should be able to knock down your 60' to 1.8 or so, which should net you a very low 13 or maybe even a high 12. Plus, your tranny will thank you. ;)

Rockwood 02-07-2002, 06:21 PM few things....
be VERY careful welding aluminum, as it has a lower melting point than steel, etc. you'd be surprised how quickly you could melt a case!
the gears should be fine, not too sure about the seals.
i would still recommend a welding shop, so that if they fuck it up, you can make them buy a new tranny case for you.
also, do you have motor mounts? ES suspension bushings? these things will greatly reduce your wheelhop.
SR20loper 02-08-2002, 01:35 AM What exactly does it mean if its cracked by the linkage....thanks
playatx99 02-08-2002, 01:52 AM i think that Matt's transmission could be considered cracked by the linkage, lol

Rockwood 02-08-2002, 05:27 AM well, where the shift linkage plugs into the tranny, 2 black metal rods that originate around the cat, the case usually craks there first.
Rockwood 02-08-2002, 05:30 AM i take it you fixed your boost problems? what caused it anyway?
SR20loper 02-08-2002, 06:41 AM a collapsing Intake piping...the obvious...no probs at all now...you said wondering if its by the linkage what does it mean if it is?
Rockwood 02-08-2002, 01:23 PM nothing, other than your case is cracked. this is just the usual spot for it to crack, it is apparently a weak spot in the casing.

Do you know anything about these inserts? TIA
Rockwood 02-10-2002, 04:03 AM yeah, anyone with a tranny previous to 96? (SR20development will be able to tell you exact years) has a hollow spot at the bottom of the bell housing, right next to the differential. this insert is welded in place and greatly strengthens the bell housing, to the point where you are now more likely to break 3rd gear than ever cracking the case.
you have to remove the tranny to install it, cal (619)69-TURBO for further details.
Rockwood 02-10-2002, 04:05 AM now, if we could find 10 people to buy quaife's stronger gearset, we would basically have bulletproof trannies.
who wants to pony up $3000 for my new, bulletproof tranny? anyone? takers?
