: G20 ecu in NX?

I talked to a guy at my local Nissan dealership who has an all race NX2000, and he told me that the G20 ecu would make more power on my NX than my factory ecu. Can anybody confirm this for the NX?

I don't see any reason whatsoever as to why it should.

I can see the guys with later cars swapping them to get rid of the speed/rev limiter, but the NX2000 doesn't have either.

Did he specify why?

OTOH, I can vouch for the JWT ecu making a difference. My throttle response improved, and the car felt smoother and a bit quicker. Strangely, it also slightly altered the tone of the intake wail when wound out to redline.

isnt he G20 ECU the one with the speed governer on it? i think that there would probably be more to it then just and ECU...like the one factory cam that people are switching out, etc. it also could be defferent depending on what year the G20 was...but then again thats a guess.

I thought the G20 didn't have a speed governor, which is why the 200sx guys were swapping them into their cars?

Yeah...I argued that in theory it shouldn't be much different than the stock NX ecu, and he couldn't give me a definite reason why, but he swore by it. I dunno...Would be interesting if it did make a difference though.

I think without some rational explanation, hard data, dyno charts, or SOMETHING, (anything!) I'd be tempted to not believe him.

Just 'cause doens't cut it for me ;)

I have owned both cars and can tell you straight from the heart...

...He's a babbling idiot!!!!!!!

Benefit of the doubt: Unless he swapped a newer low port SR20 in there recently from say a 200SX-SE-R or a Sentra SE that had a lower rev ECU and speed limiter then he could of had to get a G20 ECU. If not, he wasted money replacing the same ECU with the same ECU.

There is absolutely no difference in performance between the two ECU's. The 1991-1993 NX2000 has no speed governor except for the maximum limitations the engine will allow and has the same rev limiter as the 1991-1996 G20 ECU's.

Oh, and both vehicles were manufactured in Japan, then exported to the US and since the NX2000 was not sold after '93 in the USA, it never went through the ECU and intake cam changes that the US manufactured Sentra's and 200SX's had to go through to keep the Cali emmissions folks happy.

If you want hard facts, and have the capabilities to do this, go drive a 1991-93 G20 5-speed, 93.5-1996 G20 5-speed and any year NX2000 5-speed all stock. That's enough facts for me.

Waste of time and money.

Bet he tells you that a 1994-1996 G20 intake cam will improve the horsepower of your NX as well. Geez! Woo!

Forgot this.

Unfortunately, the 94-96 G20 did change ONLY the intake cam and went from high port to low port and that is why most owners of those years either swapped for the 1991-93 intake cam or replace with performance cams. but again, the ECU id not change between 1991-1996.

That's exactly what I argued! He also claimed that his NX had over 200hp at the wheels N/A. I didn't know what to say after that so I just said..."uuuuhh...yah. Ok!" Haha...Whatever, I'm sure it's still faster than my car anyways. The brakes were nice...Wilwoods baby!

If he had that much power NA, his car would have idled like a dumpster full of rocks. Did you heard it?

Does he have dyno charts?

Can I kick his ass? :D

LOL! Watch out he might have a automatic with overdrive switch in there as well and try to tell you it's like having a mini "turbo".

Haha! Actually, the car itself is pretty impressive as it's a dedicated racecar. Full cage, lexan windows, sponsors. My buddy raced against him at the Molson Indy. I just don't buy into any of his bullshit.
