To my new SE-R winter beater/project. Picked it up this Thursday for $1200. I probably overpaid for it, but I get stupid around these cars (as we all do) :). The good stuff: It has a newly rebuilt tranny with all new gears (feels great), lots of new parts (clutch, o2, fuel pump, cat, coil, tires, the list goes on). Starts and runs good, suspension is tight, overall a good driver. The bad: interior is a bit ratty/stained, no radio, it's been hit lightly in the front and the new hood and fender panels are still black primer, and the motor has a mild tapping that could be either a timing chain noise or early rod knock - no matter, since I plan to drive it 'til it dies then swap in a used motor, and cannibalize the head from this one to get my white one going again :). If it doesn't die, I'll just change the bearings once it gets warmer. Like I said, it's a beater, and I plan to treat it as such :). I like having a car I wouldn't feel bad about balling up on a track :).

congrats Josh, a dual se-r owner. brings a tear to my eye. did you clean it up this weekend at all? it's been above freezing.. did you pop in a new tensioner to see if the noise changes?

i remember you were threatening to yank the seats and hose that bad boy out.. heehee..

there's this stuff called Spot Shot.. it pulled a cup of coffee out of my seat..

It seems you're the only one who cares, Andy :(.

I've spent today hooking up the radio and making a new bracket to fix the crooked drivers' side corner lamp. The stereo is actually decent - a pioneer component set up front and kenwood 6x9s rear - funny that he pulled out the head unit but left some semi-decent speakers in it. It will suffice for a beater anyway, now that I have my blau installed in the dash.

Haven't got to the oil change/tensioner replacement yet, I might do it if it warms up any this afternoon... otherwise I'll just do that next week when we meet up - I got some max-life, a bosch filter, and a couple cans of duplicolor for the hood and fenders yesterday. It still needs some good tranny fluid - it feels like the gearbox is filled with molasses on a cold morning - shifts great once warm though.

Haven't even started on the cleaning - I think that may be a full weekend project. I just hung a little tree from the mirror for now :).

Yeah, you bought the black one on Ebay, right sentrastyling? You probably got a better deal than me... was that one as clean as it looked? Mine is definitely rougher, but I can't complain about the price :D. It's worth at least that just in good/new parts.

How many miles, with the few improvements you have listed sounds like it justified it's price even with then interior and exterior problems.

I would have bought it.

It turned over 165k on my way home with it. I am not particluarly concerned with the mileage though - the tranny is new and I figure the motor will be replaced before long. I really just wanted a cheap running car I could use for the winter. It is a solid driver and that's all I was concerned with. I figure the struts have been replaced at some point too, since they still have some damping left with the car at 165k. I'll find out when I look it over closely this weekend.

Fig - I know a guy in Mass who has a good '86 CRX Si for sale for $1500. He has a shop called FunHondas up there, I know him from SCCA autocrossing. I guess that's out of your price range though...

Josh You are correct it was that one....It's in really good shape...It has a minor dent on the hood and on the passengers rear quater(which will be taken care of this summer) and I need new hinges on the drivers door...that's about it......But the car is awesome and I have fun driving it....I am actually gonna be replacing the clutch with something a little better soon....
