here's the news for SE-R enthusiasts: On June 29 & 30 Summit Point will be hosting a HUGE Sport Compact Show. It'll be called the Summit Point Hype "R" fest and there will be a myriad of activities. It'll be featured on ESPN 2, local radio & TV, and will be the biggest recent event in Summit Point history. There will be a car show, track sessions, drag races, skid pad activities and loads more stuff.

I see this as a golden opportunity for the SE-R community to show the rest of the sport compact world the superiority of our cars. I suggest you all pass the word around to all the other internet lists so that SE-R representation will be greater than any other group. So far, no other group has advance info on this event. Just us SE-R folks.

What do you guys think? Who's interested in going??

A "Rice Fest" at Summit Point! Heh, I'll probably be there...

Drag racing, eh? I never imagined seeing that at Summit.

forgot to mention some of the other activities they'll be having, such as a burnout contest, a bikini contest, a drifting contest, a live band, and the Greaseman will be there too

I've been to two driving schools on the large course at Summit Point. Summit Point is about 1.5 hours away from the Howard County area of Maryland. The course is indeed lots of fun. Also, the drive to Summit Point is a very pleasant, scenic drive if you make the journey early in the morning...

I'm trying to imagine a quarter-mile drag strip on the front straightaway of Summit Point. A decent amount of "shut-down" room would exist, that's for sure!

Hopefully I can make it out there. The car should be turboed by then. Let me know where abouts it is and how far it is from central CT. Thanks

Check this page out for directions from Maryland and Virginia. I know that you're in Connecticut, but this might help a little bit:

Also, MapQuest can actually do a fairly good job at giving you directions. Although it's never failed for me thus far (even on long trips such as to Virginia International Raceway), I still refuse to fully trust it - be sure to consult a map and use directions from the web page in addition to MapQuest!
