Hey all. How hard is it to replace the O2 sensor and where is it? Do I need any new gasket/wires/etc? My '93 auto Classic finally hit 75,000 miles and I think it's time to change the sucker (got the wavy idle prblem during startup, and if not warmed-up properly the car dies when I put it in Drive). TIA

where is it? uh oh!!

First you have to take off the heat shield and you'll see it on the exhaust manifold. All you need is a new 02 sensor. No new wires or gaskets and crap. I would get some anti-seize stuff to put on it as well. Just ask the auto clerk. You also need a special 02 sensor socket. It makes the job alot easier and comes in useful when other people need help. Im not sure on the size, though.

Let me try to find a pic of it.

HERE IT IS:
ITS on the right hand side by the radiator fan. its sticking into the exhaust manifold runner.

Hey not everyone can be an expert... :D Thanks for the info, I'll tackle the problem tomorrow. Oh, BTW, So I squirt the anti-seize stuff on the sensor, then put it in? Thanks again!

Well it's not a liquid, at least not what I have. You just apply it by finger or by the brush in the bottle around the threads and screw the sensor in. And all done. BTW, be sure to not cross-thread the thing.

Id hit the sensor with some penatrating oil for a few days to make sure nothing strips or breaks. Also id check your maf ground that will cause some weird idle problems.

don't put the rest of the packet of that anti seize crap in your toolbox, take it from me. Every time I reach in to get a tool i come out with silver crap all over my hand. Used it on my spark plugs and o2 sensor, works great!!

Just don't get too crazy with it. If you get it on the porcelain of either your plugs or your O2 sensor you're hosed (though it is really hard to screw it up on your O2 sensor).

FYI, they usually come with antisieze already applied on the new O2 sensor.

Was looking though my pics last night when I found this one, i forgot i took a pic of it. but here is a good view of a stock position of the o2 sensor. getting to it is a pain, may have to take fans off, id also take the AIV sutff out to get room. And if you were at Ben's they would recomend you take it off and leave it in his garage. I swear that boy has like 8-10 complete aiv systems in a box...

Go to Pep Boys, they have little packets of anti-seize called just enough, costs about $.89 and does have alot for a small packet. With one packet I was able to do the 02sensor and spark plugs on my SE-R plus all 8 plugs on my lightning and still have some leftover.

As for taking off the O2 sensor, do what everyone says, spray it the day before hand to help loosen it. On my 92' I didn't have to remove anything, all I did was lay under the car and used a wrench on the 02 sensor, it was a little cramped but still very easy to get it off and put the new one on. The parts stores I went to all wanted over $20 for the special socket and I was not about to spend that much on a tool that it turns out wasn't a necessity.

Anyone know which O2 sensor fits in a BB DET? I have the DE sensor from my Nx but it needs replacing so I though I'd put in the ones they sell for the classics in there (since its supposed to be cheaper than the Nx ones). Are Nx and classic sensors the same?? and does anyone have price?
TIA,
Nick
