All years of NX2000 had LSD.

You should test if yours works, rev it up to the redline and pop the clutch. Get out of the car(once it's stopped!!) and check for the tire marking. 1=no lsd, 2=lsd, 3=way too much lsd.

There's an easier way to check.
Jack the front end up. With the car in nuetral, engine off, turn of the front wheels by hand. If the LSD works, the other wheel should turn the same direction.

Okay here's a question, if anyone can answer it. If the stock LSD doesn't work (from old age or whatever) and a Quaiffe LSD is being installed, does it really matter? i.e. the Quaiffe can be installed and it will function properly regardless of whether the stock LSD works?

Good question.
Not sure, as the Quaife unit bolts to the back of the stock VLSD unit.

OTOH, you could buy the NISMO VLSD. It replaces the stock VLSD.

Right. That was my point. I am having Jason Garrett Young install a Quaiffe into a tranny that he is supplying me with (along with cryotreated gears) and he told me that it piggybacks the stock unit. I can't visualize how it all goes together so I was wondering if the condition of the stock LSD mattered.

I'm having a similar problem,

My Stock LSD does not seem to be working well. I put the car up on blocks and had one wheel locked and let out the clutch. The other wheel just turned away, the engine didn't slow down at all. Should it only slow down on a clutch type LSD?

Anyway, the $700 Nismo part is a bit pricey.

Anybody know some good alternatives?

Then just replace it with the OE Nissan VLSD.

Yeah, um,

That one only lists for $900.

Has anyone ever heard of rebuilding these things or changing the fluid? It doesn't look like you can even open the VLSD itself. Does anyone know the mileage when these start going bad? (If I get one from a junkyard).

Any Ideas to save me a few bucks?

Just get a used trans it'll be cheaper than replacing the unit. Get a low mileage one so you won't have a worn out VSLD.
