I am looking to by an exhaust system for my '96 200SX SE-R. I'm trying ot stay away from the droning, want a good sound with good h.p. increase. Any suggestions on what type of exhaust to get?

Hmm.... well, do you have any other mods? If this is going to be your first one, I'd say get a header because, you'll gain a lot more hp (like 10 vs. 3), it'll be a hell of a lot quieter, and you won't attract any of the wrong kind of attention (police). Otherwise, I have a Greddy SP which is pretty nice, but too loud for my tastes.

CAI would probably be the best bang for buck first mod. Then header, exhaust, pulleys, ECU, Cams.

Well I got a custom exhaust. 2.25"w/ turbo muffler crush bent pipes. No drone. I like the sound and I got a "butt Dyno feel of some HP. Some might say the Turbo is old technology but the whole system cost me 150. No glass pack. when the car is warming up the exhaust kinda has a ping but after about 3-4min of driving its gone. I love it. especially since I can drive on the freeway and it doesnt make me sick of noise.

Well it was posted in the general forum, the Tanabe Super Medallion was released. Its pretty nice and not too loud should be better than the HKS. It sells for $475 so not too bad.
