: Dynomax Ultraflow welded??? Anyone use this??
BLKSTANG 02-12-2002, 08:16 PM My friend is thinking about going with a Dynomax Ultra Flow welded muffler on his 98 SE-R since they are only $60 or so. He wants to just weld on to stock piping. Anyone use one and if so what do they sound like and do they offer any power increase? Thanks.
ser_lover 02-12-2002, 09:45 PM Although I have never used one.....I have a custon 2.5 inche pipe with serbin muffler. I might be wrong but I think most of your power gain comes from the piping but its good to have around a 3 inche tip.
BLKSTANG 02-12-2002, 10:23 PM We are also putting a header on it soon and I didn't really know if the pipe was a restriction or not. What is the optimal size? He doesn't have enough $$ to buy a cat-back so he was just going to get the muffler. No shops around here do mandrel bending either. Well...anyone with more sugestions??
DaGenesis 02-13-2002, 12:31 AM if youre stayin NA get a 2 - 2.25" size for the b pipe
if youre goin with nitrous get 2.5" piping
if youre goin turbo go with 3"
u can call up stromung for the b pipe, i heard theyre having a group buy on them right now ( just do a search for their phone #)
and courtesy has 2.5 inch b pipe for sale
RollcageSR20 02-13-2002, 02:20 AM I have a Dynomax UltraFlo welded muffler on my 200SX. I just got the stock muffler cut off and got the new muffler welded in its place with the stock flange and mid-pipe. Very quiet... Sometimes, I don't even know it's there. Even went as far as using the stock muffler tip and painting the whole thing black for the stealth approach.
BLKSTANG 02-13-2002, 10:41 AM RollcageSR20...Any gains with the muffler? Just curious. Thats cool that it is quiet, he doesn't want a loud raspy sounding exhaust, just something a little better than the stock one.

I wouldn't know. I never performed a back-to-back dyno test between the stock muffler and the Dynomax. My "butt-dyno" did register some difference. It's definitely better than the stock muffler... The Dynomax UltraFlo is one of the better straight-through aftermarket mufflers you can buy.
jacen99SE 02-13-2002, 12:24 PM I use the ultra-flo stainless.
I have dyno'd a straight through muffler on the stock b-pipe. It gained 3 hp and 2 ft-lbs of torque, and made more power than the stock muffler everywhere. That was with stock cams. The gains with S3 cams were 5hp and 5 ft-lbs (all measured at the wheels).
nissan98ser 02-15-2002, 10:30 PM I have UltraFlow Welded on my 98 SER. I have custom 2.5" crush bend with the muffler. It's a low buck upgrade with nice sound. I would recommend putting a glasspack after the cat. My butt dyno told me it's faster.
97 Black SER 02-16-2002, 12:03 PM My friend Mark had one on his old se-r and it droned on the highway. I have the super turbo on my car and it doesn't sound very good at all. It buzzes like a honda, although I'm sure a resonator might solve the problem.
jacen99SE 02-16-2002, 06:34 PM I like how mine sounds and it doesn't drone, but I have a resonator and a 19" long can on my Ultra-Flo.
WhiteSER20 02-17-2002, 05:31 PM hehe Ryan's sounds hot with the super turbo
CharlieH98 02-18-2002, 08:56 AM Hey:
I've got a Dynomax turbo muffler 2 1/4" X 18" 3 chamber with a Courtesy B pipe. Flows good. When I run around town at 6,000rpm, no heads turn, so it must be pretty quiet. Can't say it's quiet inside, but it's quieter than the Naxos can I had on there with the stock pipe.
Cheers,
Charlie :)
